The American Today: WBB Goes Undefeated on Tuesday; Two Games Highlight Wednesday Slate

The American Athletic Conference went undefeated (3-0) in Tuesday action to improve the league’s record to 69-31 (.690)  on the year.

No. 1/1 UConn continued their winning ways and defeated No. 2/2 Duke in Durham, 83-61 in the Jimmy V Classic. Junior Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis had 21 points and a career-high seven 3-pointers in her first action since Nov. 15. Breanna Stewart led all players with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds while Stefanie Dolson fell just shy of a double-double, finishing with 14 points and nine boards. Bria Hartley added 13 points, five rebounds and four assists and Moriah Jefferson chipped in with nine points and a game-high seven assists.

The Huskies shot 50% (12-24) from 3-point range, made 11-of-13 free-throws (.846) and held a 25-13 advantage in assists.

No. 7/7 Louisville rolled over Ball State 105-67 a non-conference matchup in Muncie, Ind. The Cardinals led 60-29 at the break and had their most points in any half this season.

Shoni Schimmel led four Louisville players in double-figure scoring with a game-high 17 points. She added eight rebounds, seven assists and shot 50% (6-for-12) from the field. Tia Gibbs had 15 points off the bench in 13 minutes of action and Jude Schimmel added 14. Sara Hammond had 11 of her 13 points in the first five minutes  and finished with 14 points and six assists.

Cincinnati improved to 6-4 with an 86-70 victory over in-state rival Akron. Dayeesha Hollins finished with 25 points and became the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points at UC. Jeanise Randolph pulled down her fourth double-double of the season (23 points, 12 rebounds).  Next up for UC is a trip to Xavier for the Skyline Chili Crosstown Classic on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Two American Athletic Conference teams are in action Wednesday evening. Memphis hosts Mississippi Valley State at 8 p.m. while USF takes on Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m.
