Memphis took down Mississippi Valley State and USF fell to Middle Tennessee during Wednesday action around the league.
Ariel Hearn paced Memphis with a career-high tying 26 points as the Tigers overcame a tough first half to defeat the Devilettes.
Memphis shot 27.3 percent from the field to open the game, but Hearn connected on a pair of treys with 10:33 remaining to put the Tigers up 18-12 mid-way through the first half.
Asianna Fuqua-Bey added a double-double of 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Freshman Taylor Williams finished with a career-high 10 points and added seven rebounds on the defensive end.
The Tigers close out the non-conference slate on Friday hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 8 p.m. eastern.
Tamara Taylor had a career-high 22 points, Alisia Jenkins pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds and Katelyn Weber added a career-high 12 points off the bench, but it was not enough as USF dropped a 68-62 decision to Middle Tennessee at the Sun Dome.
The Bulls trailed by eight points with 4:41 remaining in the game and cut the deficit to two on a 3-pointer by Taylor with 12 seconds left, but the Blue Raiders sealed the victory with a pair of free-throws.
USF out rebounded Middle Tennessee 42-29 and had a 17-0 advantage in second chance points.
The Bulls travel to College of Charleston Saturday for their final non-conference game of the season.
Temple hosts Howard in the lone American women’s basketball game on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. eastern at McGonigle Hall.
