USF moved to 5-2 in league play and No. 5/5 Louisville took the top spot in conference standings during Tuesday women’s basketball action around The American.
USF shot 60 percent (12-for-20) in the second half in a 57-48 win over Cincinnati at the Sun Dome. The two teams were tied at 22 at the break, but the Bulls used a 14-2 run in the second period to pull away from the Bearcats.
Courtney Williams led USF with a game-high 21 points. Akila McDonald chipped in 10 points and six rebounds while Alisia Jenkins had a game-high three blocks. Jeanise Randolph paced Cincinnati with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, her seventh double-double of the year. Dayeesha Hollins added 13 points and a game-high six assists.
Shoni Schimmel led all scorers with 25 points in Louisville’s 93-52 win at Houston. The Cardinals tied their best start in conference play at 7-0, which was set during the 1996-97 season.
Asia Taylor (16 points), Emmonnie Henderson (14 points) and Bria Smith (13 points) led the scoring output for Louisville. The Cougars had three players score in double-figures in Marche’ Amerson (10 points), Yasmeen Thompson (10 points) and Demetria Foreman (10 points). Te’onna Campbell dished out a career-high six assists.
Two games round out the conference slate on Wednesday. UCF hosts Rutgers at 7 p.m. (American Digital Network) while No. 1/1 UConn hosts Memphis in Hartford at 7 p.m. ET (SNY/ESPN3). Temple hosts Penn at McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia Big 5 action..
