PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Players from two ranked teams earned Player of the Week honors from the American Athletic Conference for the week ending March 23. Houston’s Elena Kordolaimi was named Women’s Player of the Week, while Memphis’ Connor Glennon was named Men’s Player of the Week.
Kordolaimi continued a strong freshman campaign in leading the Cougars to two wins on the week, a 4-0 victory over Louisiana Tech and a 5-2 win over conference foe SMU. She went 2-0 in both singles and doubles, playing at No. 2 singles and No.1 doubles. Kordolaimi becomes the second Cougar to win Player of the Week honors after teammate Despoina Vogasari took conference honors three times previously this season.
Glennon earned Men’s Player of the Week honors, the third different Tiger to win Men’s Player of the Week this season. Glennon led Memphis at No. 1 singles in a 2-1 week, as Memphis earned victories at No. 61 San Diego and San Diego State, with the lone loss coming to No. 43 Drake. Glennon was 2-0 in doubles and also added a singles victory.
AROUND THE AMERICAN – MEN’S
UConn went 3-0 on a Spring Break trip to Puerto Rico, defeating Nichols College, Colgate, and Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras.
Louisville had a 1-1 week, sweeping Middle Tennessee 7-0 after a 4-2 loss to No. 37 Texas Tech.
USF notched a 7-0 win in their lone match of the week, as they took down No. 58 Wisconsin.
Temple had a 2-0 week, picking up two road wins at Lehigh (5-2) and Villanova (4-3). The Owls’ Kristian Marquat pulled out a three-set win that was the clincher against the Wildcats, and has now won eight of his last 10 singles matches.
Four men’s teams were ranked in the last ITA rankings – Louisville (26), USF (29), Memphis (32), and UCF (51).
AROUND THE AMERICAN – WOMEN’S
Cincinnati and UConn both went on Spring Break trips to Puerto Rico and came back with undefeated records without dropping a point. Cincinnati earned three wins, over Marist, SUNY Geneseo and Colgate. The Huskies also defeated Colgate, along with Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras.
Memphis knocked off Louisville in a conference match, with the Tigers taking a 5-2 victory over the Cardinals.
