UNCASVILLE, CONN. – The No. 1 seed UConn Huskies scored a 72-42 victory over No. 8 seed Cincinnati to advance to the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship.
Cincinnati battled early in the first half, with the Bearcats keeping the Huskies lead to four points through the first ten minutes of the game. UConn then flexed their offensive prowess, closing the half on a 20-4 run to take a twenty-point lead into the intermission.
The second half continued to be controlled by the Huskies, with UConn opening on a 23-12 run over the first 11 minutes to push their lead over 30 points. UConn held off the Bearcats from there, finishing the 30-point victory.
American Athletic Conference Player of the Year Breanna Stewart paced the Huskies with a game-high 22 points while Bria Hartley scored 17 and dished five assists. Cincinnati’s Jeanise Randolph had a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds in the loss. The Huskies shot 47.3 percent from the field while holding the Bearcats to 32 percent.
With the win UConn continues their perfect record at 32-0 and will take on No. 4 seed Rutgers in Sunday’s semifinals at 1 p.m.
