Tulsa Rebounds, Houston Goes 2-0

No. 22/24 Tulsa rebounded from a tough opening day at the FAU Strike Out Cancer Tournament and Houston went 2-0 on the second day of the Hilton Houston Plaza Invitational during softball action around The American on Saturday.

The Hurricane bounced back with a pair victories Saturday, as it defeated Maryland, 1-0, and Drexel, 10-0 (5 inn.) at the FAU Strike Out Cancer Tournament at FAU Softball Stadium. Senior Bailey Erwin (3-0) pitched a two-hit shutout in the win over the Terrapins and pick up her third victory of the season. Tulsa’s only two baserunners in the game came in the fourth inning when junior center fielder Jodi Edmiston singled and scored on a double by senior first baseman Julie Kernen.

The Hurricane tallied a school-record seven stolen bases and scored 10 runs on nine hits against Drexel. Tulsaa put up two runs in the first inning, five runs in the second, and one run each in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

A 13-hit game against UMass highlighted day two of the Hilton Houston Plaza Invitational. The Cougars defeated the Minutewomen 5-4 in their first matchup of the day before downing DePaul 6-3 in the nightcap. Houston recorded 19 hits in the two games including three extra base hits and junior Courtney Klingler led the charge as she went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run.
 
Junior centerfielder Katie St. Pierre also had a top showing Saturday afternoon as she went 4-for-8 with two runs and three stolen bases.

Jordan Richwood threw a complete game shutout for Memphis and Cierra Mangum tallied the game-winning RBI as Memphis defeated FIU 2-0 in the Tigers' final game of the FIU Invitational on Saturday. With the bases loaded in the third inning, Mangum singled up the middle and scored the only two runs of the game for either team. Memphis went 1-1 on the final day of the tournament after dropping a 10-2 (6) decision to Purdue Saturday morning.

RV/RV UCF went 2-0 on the opening day of the Dot Richardson National Collegiate Softball Invitational after topping No. 18/18 Missouri 1-0 and Arkansas 6-1.

Timely hits by the Knights and a miscue by the Tigers gave UCF a walk-off win over Missouri. With one out in the seventh, UCF senior Farrah Sullivan hit a standing double to center field. Sophomore Brittany Solis followed with a single up the middle, which was mishandled by the Tigers' center fielder, and Sullivan beat the throw home to give the Knights the 1-0 victory.

A five-run sixth inning propelled UCF to the win over the Razorbacks. Senior Mackenzie Audas earned her third complete-game win of the season and struck out 14 batters in the victory, allowing just three hits and two walks. Arkansas’ lone run of the game was unearned.

RV/RV USF dropped a pair of games at the President's Day Weekend Tournament hosted by the Bulls. USF fell 9-1 to No. 11/14 Tennessee before dropping the nightcap to Fordham, 14-6.

East Carolina wrapped up action in the Pirate Clash with a 9-8 loss to East Tennessee State.
