Many teams opened up their regular season to a successful start. RV/RV UCF, East Carolina and Tulsa all went 2-0 in their opening day swing. NR/RV USF defeated Illinois State on day two of the USF Softball Classic.
In two games, UCF did not have a run scored against them as they beat George Mason, 7-0, and Boston College, 4-0, in the UCF Invitational. Senior Mackenzie Audas posted her fourth career no-hitter, recording 10 strikeouts against George Mason. Kahley Novak and Linnea Goodman both had two runs against the Patriots. They each scored one run in the win over Boston College.
East Carolina hosted the Pirate Classic and took a 7-3 win over Oakland University and beat Delaware State University, 10-0, in five innings. Ali Ramirez drove in three runs in both games. Casey Ervin had an RBI-double against Oakland.
No. 21/22 Tulsa also grabbed two wins against Santa Clara University and Grand Canyon. Julie Kernen had six RBIs on the day.
Memphis traveled to Baton Rouge, La., where they fell to No. 19/18 LSU, 7-2, in the Tiger Classic. Houston earned a win against Southern Miss, 4-1, but fell to No. 3/4 Alabama, 6-2 in the third game of the Sand Dollar Classic.
USF claimed a no-hitter win against Illinois State, 7-0. Erica Nunn earned the win as she recorded 10 strikeouts. Lee Ann Spivey had two runs on the day. (make this regular print and not italics)
On Sat., Memphis will compete in a double-header starting at 11 a.m. against Tennessee State. At 1:30, they will take on North Carolina State. At Noon, Tulsa will face Santa Clara for the second day in a row. Tonight, at 7:30 p.m., they will play Grand Canyon. At 1 p.m., Houston will take on Jackson State and Florida Gulf Coast at 7 p.m. UCF will play Boston College and George Mason again, starting at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. East Carolina will matchup against RV/RV South Carolina at 4:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., they will take on Longwood. USF will take on No. 8/8 Michigan at 6 p.m. and Jacksonville State at 8:15 p.m. All times are ET.
