EAST CAROLINA PICKS UP TWO WINS

The opening weekend of The American softball season concluded Sunday, with East Carolina winning a doubleheader against Oakland and RV/RV South Carolina, respectively.

In game one, the Pirates beat Oakland, 9-1, in five innings. Ali Ramirez had three RBIs and Abby Wynne was 2-2 at bat, posting two runs. East Carolina came back with another victory, against SEC foe South Carolina, 1-0. Mary-Sloan Bradford scored the lone run against the Gamecocks. Bradford was also named Most Valuable Player of the Pirate Classic. 

Houston split the day, opening with a victory against Liberty, 6-5.Tiffani McKnight earned a two-run double that allowed a walk-off run to win the game. In game two, the Cougars fell to No. 23/23 South Alabama in a close one, 3-2.

No. 21/22 Tulsa fell for the first time, 2-0, to Northern Colorado. Memphis also fell to Tennessee State, 4-1, in the final day of the LSU Tiger Classic. NR/RV USF battled off a tough one but fell at home to No. 1/1 Florida, 10-5.

On Wednesday (Feb. 11), UCF will travel to South Carolina for a 4 p.m. ET matchup.
