Memphis won a pair of games at the Cowgirl Classic and weather altered the schedule for three teams during softball action around The American on Saturday.
Freshman Brooke Lee had the game winning RBI with a two-out single in the sixth as the Tigers came back to beat McNeese State 3-2 Saturday night at the Cowgirl Classic. Jordan Richwood threw her second complete game in as many days for Memphis, allowing only three hits and striking out four. Lindsay Crowdus finished 2-for-3 with one run. The win wrapped up a 2-0 day for the Tigers, who opened Saturday with a 12-9 win over Texas Tech. Memphis tallied a season-high in runs with the victory and scored in every inning vs. the Red Raiders except the seventh. Memphis outhit Texas Tech 13-6, and defensively neither team committed an error.
On the second day of the Wilson/DeMarini Tournament, UConn fell twice in a doubleheader against Texas State at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn, Ala. The Cougars took game one, 7-1, before finishing off the sweep with a 9-0 five-inning win. Alyson Ambler had her team-leading third home run of the season in the first game vs. Texas State.
Due to inclement weather in central Florida, USF canceled its remaining games at the Wildon/DeMarini Classic and UCF and East Carolina each altered their schedules for the weekend. The Knights return to action on Sunday hosting LIU, while the Pirates face off with Illinois and Georgia State in a doubleheader at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
