Knights Win 500th Game in Program History; Bulls, Hurricane Split Matchups

UCF won the 500th game in program history on Saturday after sweeping a doubleheader with Butler and Illinois-Chicago (UIC) to highlight softball action around The American on Saturday.

The Knights opened Saturday with a 5-1 win over the Bulldogs and used a late rally to earn a 2-1 victory over the Flames in the nightcap. Shelby Turnier tossed a three-hit complete-game and struck out seven batters in the opener vs. Butler. The Knights had 10 hits against assembled their sixth game of the season with double digit hits. Mackenzie Audas posted her eighth game of the season with 10 or more strikeouts as she fanned 11 in 5.1 innings of work against UIC. Turnier (12-4) collected the win vs. the Flames, allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings of work.

USF split its Saturday doubleheader at the Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. The Bulls run ruled Green Bay, 11-0 (5), in game one before falling to Towson, 3-0, in the finale. USF got a strong performance in the circle from redshirt freshman Susan Wysocki in the win over the Phoenix. The right-hander struck out five in a complete-game shutout to improve to 5-0 on the year. Veronica Gajownik gave the Bulls a five-run cushion with a three-run HR to left-center field. It was her first home run of the season and second of her career with the USF.

Tulsa split its doubleheader at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic Saturday, falling at Texas Tech, 10-2 (5) before defeating Mississippi Valley State, 13-1, at Rocky Johnson Field. Brittany Walker hit a two-run home run and Jocelyn Sheffield hit a three-run homer, while Shelby Estocado added two RBIs for the Golden Hurricane against Mississippi Valley. Bailey Erwin (8-3) pitched 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts to earn the victory while Emily Watson tossed a scoreless seventh frame.

UConn dropped a pair of games on second day of the 2015 San Diego Classic II, held at the Santee Complex in San Diego, Calif. The Huskies fell  4-1 to BYU in game one before dropping a 5-4 contest to New Mexico State. Lauren Duggan got the nod in the nightcap, taking the loss in 3.1 innings of three-run ball.

East Carolina opened action at the OU Tournament with a pair of losses to Iowa and host No. 6/6 Oklahoma. The Pirates fell in game one, 5-1, to the Hawkeyes before dropping an 11-0 (5) decision to the Sooners in the night cap.

Memphis was downed by Wisconsin and College of Charleston, 14-7 and 4-1, respectively, on day two of the CofC Invitational.
