East Carolina Blanks Utah, Snaps Streak

When senior right-hander Sarah Christian walked off the field after throwing a complete game shutout against Utah, both the Pirates’ eight game losing streak and the Utes 12-game winning streak were over.

Christian’s outing marked her fifth complete game and third shut-out of the year.  Only seven Utes reached base as Christian scattered four hits and three walks in the 4-0 victory.

The Pirates provided their 4-3 hurler run support early, scoring all four runs in the second inning.

Sending nine players to the plate in the second, East Carolina scored two runs when freshman Mary-Sloan Bradford launched her second homerun of the season.  Then, in a two-out rally, the Pirates notched four consecutive singles, scoring the final two runs and knocking Utah starter Katie Donovan (5-2) out of the game.

East Carolina will remain in action at the Hawaii Spring Tournament on Saturday, March 7, taking on Longwood at 5:00 p.m. ET and Oregon State at 7:00 p.m. ET.
