The American Today: Tulsa Defeats Arkansas

Tulsa defeated Arkansas and Memphis split a doubleheader with Jackson State during softball action around The American on Tuesday.

Sophomore third baseman Maggie Withee drove in three runs, while junior second baseman Kaitlin Allen and freshman shortstop Shelby Estocado each tallied three hits to lead Tulsa to a 10-2 (6 inn.) win over Arkansas Tuesday evening at the Collins Family Softball Complex. The trio was part of five players to record at least two hits in the game, including two each by Withee, junior catcher Catherine Horner and sophomore center fielder Maddie Withee. Allen, Maddie Withee and senior right fielder Erica Sampson also scored two runs apiece. The Golden Hurricane, which totaled 15 hits in the ballgame, improved its record to 22-12.

Jackson State split a pair of games with Jackson State in a midweek doubleheader at the Tiger Softball Complex on Tuesday afternoon, winning 9-1 in five innings before dropping the second game 4-1. The Tigers moved to 13-18 after the doubleheader, while Jackson State is now 13-21. Memphis sophomore Lindsay Crowdus continues to set Memphis records as she set the program mark for consecutive games safely reached base, with a two RBI single in the first game. Pitchers Katie Brignac and Molly Smith were both solid in the circle, as they combined for 12 innings, nine hits and just five runs between the two games.
