UConn's Mosqueda-Lewis, Stokes Selected in First Round of WNBA Draft



UConn seniors Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Kiah Stokes were selected in the first round of the 2015 WNBA Draft presented by State Farm on Thursday, April 16. Mosqueda-Lewis was selected by the Seattle Storm with the No. 3 pick, while Stokes was taken by the New York Liberty with the 11th pick.


The draft was held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. First round action began at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

The duo will become the 28th and 29th different former Huskies to play in the WNBA since the league's inception in 1997. UConn has now had at least one player selected in the WNBA Draft 16 times in the last 18 years. Mosqueda-Lewis and Stokes are the 15thand 16thHuskies to be selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft.


The NCAA's all-time made 3-point leader (398), Mosqueda-Lewis capped her four-year career with the Huskies by winning her third-straight NCAA Division I title in the 2014-15 season. She earned a spot on both the USBWA and WBCA All-America Teams and was honored as a Second Team All-American by the Associated Press in March.

Stokes, the 2014-15 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, set a new school single-season block record when she rejected 147 shots this past season. She finished her career at No. 3 in Husky history with 325 blocks. Additionally, she ranked second on the team with 265 rebounds, averaging 6.8 boards in just 18.3 minutes as a senior.
