Central Arkansas Takes Two from Memphis

Central Arkansas 8, Memphis 0 (5)

The Tigers suffered an 8-0 loss in the first game of the doubleheader against Central Arkansas at the Tiger Softball Complex on Tuesday evening. The game remained scoreless through the first four innings, until Central Arkansas tallied eight runs on two hits in the top of the fifth. Most of the Bears’ runs were scored due to walks, wild pitches and stolen bases. Memphis outhit Central Arkansas 4-3 in the game but was unable to cross the plate in the bottom of the fifth with two outs and the bases loaded. Hannah Harrell, Brittany Vaughn, Anna Thomas and Addison Maxwell each had one hit for the Tigers.

Central Arkansas 5, Memphis 3

Central Arkansas (UCA) completed a sweep of Memphis in the nightcap on Tuesday by topping the Tigers 5-3. The Bears took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning before Memphis responded in the bottom of the inning when Haleigh Ross led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Hannah Harrell. Harrell added the Tigers’ second run on a fielding error. Memphis was down 3-2 but tied the score when Sami Jo Schulz crossed the plate due to an error by UCA's shortstop. The Bears reclaimed the lead 4-3 in the fifth, as they added one run on two hits and added an insurance run in the sixth.

Memphis will travel to Starkville, Miss. on Wednesday for a non-conference game against Mississippi State at 6 p.m. CT.
