East Carolina 12, UConn 0 (5)
The East Carolina (ECU)-UConn series ended with a 12-0 five-inning win by the Pirates on Sunday at their home field. Lydia Ritchie earned the win and threw a complete-game two-hit shutout while striking out four batters. East Carolina scored seven runs on five hits in the first inning, the first when Abby Wynne drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Ciara Ervin. In the bottom of the third inning, Karlie Smith hit her second grand slam in as many days to push the Pirate advantage to 11-0. Kacie Oshiro went 4-for-4 at the plate for East Carolina, scoring twice and recording two RBIs. Lexi Gifford and Alyssa Gardea recorded UConn’s only hits for the day, each hitting singles to the outfield. East Carolina (16-36 overall, 7-11 American) wrapped up regular season action with the game and will not resume play until the conference championship, scheduled for May 7-9 at the UCF Softball Complex. UConn (17-30 overall, 4-10 American) will host Quinnipiac ion a non-conference game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
Memphis 2, USF 0
With a 2-0 victory on Sunday Memphis took two of three games in this weekend’s conference series against USF in Tampa, Fla. After six scoreless innings in the series finale, the Tigers notched a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, Brittany Vaughn’s single to center field plated Addison Maxwell and Kyler Trosclair, both of whom reached base on singles. The Tigers outhit USF 9-3, with Maxwell going 3-for-3 at the plate. Kristen Wyckoff, D’Anna Devine and Juli Weber each recorded singles for the Bulls. Memphis (16-31, 4-11 American) will face Murray State in a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday in Murray, Ky., with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. CT. USF will finish the regular season with a trip to Orlando, Fla. to face UCF in a three-game conference series. The in-state rivals will begin their Saturday doubleheader at 2 p.m. ET.
Tulsa 4, Houston 1
Tulsa defeated Houston 4-1 on Sunday in the final game of the conference series at the Collins Softball Complex. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, when Shelby Miller singled and eventually scored on a throwing error. Tulsa tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning, with a solo homerun to left field by Julie Kernan. The Hurricane tallied two more runs in the inning, with Brittany Walker scoring on a wild pitch and Shelby Estocado reaching the plate on a passed ball. With a 3-1 lead entering the fifth, Kernan (2-for-3 at the plate) stole home after reaching base on a two-out single and extended Tulsa’s lead to three (4-1). Houston recorded three hits in the bottom of the seventh but was unable to plate another run as Tulsa claimed the win, 4-1. The Golden Hurricane (30-17 overall, 9-6 American) will play their regular seson home game on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT against Missouri State. Houston (24-24 overall, 9-5 American) will face Lamar in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Cougar Softball Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
