Tulsa Earns First Win, Memphis and USF Roll on Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Dedric Lawson and Craig Randall scored 21 points each for Memphis in a 99-86 victory over Savannah State on Saturday.

Lawson also grabbed 10 rebounds for his 20th double-double. K.J. Lawson, Dedric's older brother, and Markel Crawford added 14 points each.

Savannah State (1-3) threw up 48 3-point attempts. They made 16, matching their nationally leading average. Memphis (3-0) attempted 29 from the arc, making just seven, but dominated in the paint, outscoring Savannah State 54-22.

Casey Well, 8 of 13 from the arc, led Savannah State with 24 points. Dexter McClanahan added 16.

Savannah State virtually matched its average of 85.3 points per game, though it came in giving up an NCAA-worst average of 107.3.

Memphis built an 18-point lead by the 12:42 mark of the second half. Savannah State cut it to nine before being outscored 10-2 in the four-minute span to trail by 17 with a minute to go.

Tulsa 77, New Orleans 68
TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- TK Edogi had career-bests in scoring, with 15 points, and rebounding with 10 as Tulsa got its first win of the season 77-68 over New Orleans on Saturday.

Edogi was 7 of 8 from the floor. Jaleel Wheeler also had 15 points and Junior Etou chipped in 14 and dished out five assists.

The Golden Hurricane (1-2) had a hot second half to take control after the first half ended in a 34-34 tie. Tulsa made 61 percent of its shots in the second period to finish 31-of-57 shooting while limiting New Orleans to 25-of-61 shooting.

Edogi had a layup at the 15:24 mark of the second half to start a 10-2 run and give Tulsa a 54-42 lead. New Orleans closed to 71-66 with 2:28 left following a Christavious Gill trey but could get no closer.

Gill led New Orleans (1-2) with 23 points.

USF 70, Rider 65
TAMPA, Fla. -- Geno Thorpe scored six of his 18 points in the final 3:45 and tied a career high with five assists to help South Florida beat Rider 70-65 on Saturday night.

Redshirt freshman Tulio Da Silva scored a season-high 13 points, including 12 on 4-of-4 shooting in the second half, Malik Fitts added 11 points and Troy Holston scored 10.

Holston hit a 3-pointer and then Da Silva scored five in a row in an 8-0 run that gave USF (2-1) the lead, 63-60, for good with 6 minutes left.

After a 3-pointer by Xavier Lundy gave Rider (2-1) a 60-55 lead with 8:13 to play, the Broncs made just 2 of 11 from the field and committed seven turnovers. Rider made 3 of 20 (15 percent) from 3-point range.

Lundy had 16 points and nine rebounds and Jimmie Taylor added 15 points for the Broncs.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) -- E.C. Matthews hit two late 3-pointers and finished with 18 points in No. 21 Rhode Island's 76-71 comeback victory over No. 24 Cincinnati on Saturday in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament.

Kuren Iverson added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Jared Terrell and Hassan Martin each scored 14 points for the Rams (4-0). They will face top-ranked Duke for the championship Sunday.

Jacob Evans scored 25 points and Kyle Washington had 23 for Cincinnati (2-1).

Rhode Island trailed by 12 points and was down 39-31 at halftime, but took the momentum in the second half.

Iverson gave the Rams their first lead with just under 14 minutes remaining, 49-48, with a pair of free throws.

But the Bearcats responded by scoring the next six points, and the teams went back-and-forth from there.

Matthews' 3-pointer from the left corner put Rhode Island up 63-58. His 3-pointer from the other side made it 74-69 with 21 seconds left and the Rams held on to win, despite never leading by more than five points.
