Highlights
- Memphis opened the season at the Vanderbilt Opener and three Tigers finished with first-place finishes. Junior Rafael Vallery won the men’s shot put with a throw of 56-6.5 (17.23m), freshman Saida Burns-Moore won the high jump clearing the 5-5 mark (1.65m) and senior Chardae Greenlee won the triple jump with a distance of 41-1.75 (12.54m). Seven Tigers set personal bests on Saturday and the men’s and women’s teams finished with a combined 13 top-three performers.
- Tulane competed in the BSC Panther Icebreaker to start the season for the sixth straight year and finished with a fourth-place team effort. Senior Alyssa Applebee finished second in the pole vault for the best finish in the meet for the Green Wave, clearing 12-07.5 (3.85m). Rebekah Markel and Mary Carson Pitts also cleared 12-07.5 to finish third and fourth, respectively. Markel’s pole vault was also a personal best. Seniors Taylor Potts (shot put - 48-00.75) and Mikayla Sonneborn (mile - 5:06.04) each took home bronze in their events.
- Temple kicked off the 2016-17 season at the Lehigh Season Opener and earned two-first place finishes. Freshman Mariah Slade began her career as an Owl with a victory in the 200m, with a time of 26.27. Senior Sydnee Jacques took home the gold in the triple jump with a mark of 38-4.75 (11.70m). Senior Simone Brownlee finished third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.06.
