LOUISVILLE, K.Y., April 12, 2016 – The accolades have continued to roll in for senior Erica Nunn as she was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 5-10.
“It’s nice to see that Erica is getting national recognition,” head coach Ken Eriksen said. “She’s one of the main reasons why we are having such a successful year. The biggest difference this year for Erica has been her pitching coach, Jessica Moore. Jess has helped her mature not only in the circle but on the field as well.”
This is the first weekly national honor for Nunn in her career and the fifth national honor for a USF pitcher. Nunn joins the likes of Mo Triner, Leigh Ann Ellis, and Sara Nevins who have all garnered weekly national awards in their careers.
“I’m thankful for this honor and to have this last season with my team,” Nunn said. “Coach Jessica Moore has helped me with my confidence in the circle and attacking hitters. My defense has continued to make great plays behind me to keep us in the ballgame. At the plate, I’ve just been going up there and attacking every at-bat and doing my best to support the offense as well.”
Nunn was a perfect 4-0 over the week for USF. In her four games pitched, the senior won every game and walked just three batters over the course of 22 innings. Nunn struck out 29 batters, highlighted by an 11-strikeout outing in game two of the UConn series. She allowed just one earned run, posting three shutouts, for a .32 ERA.
The senior also pitched three complete games to improve her record to 20-6 on the year. Nunn is now 6-1 in conference play this season. After giving up a run in the first inning of the UConn series, Nunn has thrown 14 scoreless innings.
At the plate, she led the team with a .545 average in four games played. She recorded six hits in 11 at-bats, with three RBI, 2 runs scored and two doubles. She posted a .727 slugging percentage and a .545 on-base percentage.
Nunn and the Bulls are back in action for a three-game series at Memphis, April 15-17.
