2016-17 Women's Basketball League Schedule Announced


2016-17 Composite Schedule (Conference Games Only)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
The American Athletic Conference released the 2016-17 women's basketball composite league schedule on Friday. The 88 game conference schedule is highlighted by national televised games on ESPN and CBS Sports Network. The league also announced a number of non-conference games that will be carried by its national television partners.
 
The league’s 11 members will play a 16-game schedule. Each team will play six of its 10 opponents twice, and four opponents once each – two at home and two away. The previous format saw league members play an 18-game schedule.

American women’s basketball enjoyed another successful campaign last season. UConn won a NCAA record 11th women’s basketball title while USF made its 12th appearance in the last 13 years in the Big Dance. Five teams qualified for postseason play (UConn, USF, Memphis, Temple and Tulane) and 300,000 fans attended home games this past season.
 
Ten of the 11 league squads will tip off the conference schedule the weekend of Saturday, Dec. 31.

East Carolina plays host to Tulane on New Year’s Eve while Cincinnati travels to Dallas for a matchup at SMU to round out league opening action on Dec. 31.
 
Memphis and Temple, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 WNIT, kick off the televised league games with a matchup on New Year’s Day, Sunday, Jan. 1, on ESPN2. Defending national champion UConn travels to Orlando to face UCF the same day while Houston takes on Tulsa in a matchup on ESPNU.
 
Other televised games see Tulane and Temple squaring off on ESPN2 on Sunday, Jan. 8, USF hosting Memphis on Tuesday, Jan. 17 (7 p.m. ET, CBSSN), UConn hosting Tulane on Sunday, Jan. 22 (1 p.m. ET, ESPN2), and Tulane and USF squaring off on ESPN2 on Sunday, Feb. 12.
 
USF hosts Temple in a nationally televised matchup on ESPN2 (1 p.m. ET, Sunday, Feb. 19) before conference play ends on Monday, Feb. 27. Five games highlight the final day of conference action, including UConn and USF’s ESPN2 appearance at 7 p.m. ET.
 
The American’s non-conference televised slate includes UConn and Texas in the Jimmy V Classic hosted by the Basketball Hall of Fame at Mohegan Sun Arena (Sunday, Dec. 4, 4 p.m. ET, ESPN), Temple hosting DePaul at McGonigle Hall (Thursday, Dec. 15, 9 p.m. ET, ESPNU), Memphis hosting Vanderbilt (Wednesday, Dec. 28, 5 p.m. ET, ESPNU), Louisville and USF facing off at the Sun Dome (Sunday, Jan. 22, TBD, ESPNU), and UConn hosting South Carolina on Monday, Feb. 13 (9 p.m. ET, ESPN2).
 
Complete television and streaming designations, including contests on ESPN3, the American Digital Network and games in the American Women’s Basketball Championship, will be announced at a later date.
 
All games aired on an ESPN network will also be available through WatchESPN, accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider. Each of the CBS Sports games will be available to stream live in more than 150 U.S. markets via the CBS All Access subscription service, with additional coverage on CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports app.
