Pairings Announced for 2017 American Women’s Soccer Championship



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UCF 7/6 earned the 2017 American Athletic Conference women’s soccer regular-season title and clinched the No. 1 seed in the American Women's Soccer Championship, the league announced on Friday. USF RV/RV will be seeded No. 2 while Cincinnati -/24 and Memphis claimed the third and fourth seeds, respectively. UConn and SMU secured the fifth and sixth seeds to round out the six-team Championship bracket. Both Florida schools earn a bye into the conference semifinals.
 
Championship first round matches get underway on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the UCF Soccer Complex at the University of Central Florida. Cincinnati -/24 and SMU kick off the action at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT in the first match of the day. UConn takes on Memphis in the night cap at 7 p.m. ET. Both first round matchups will air live on The American Digital Network.
 
USF RV/RV will battle with Cincinnati -/24 or SMU, while UConn or Memphis will face UCF 7/6 in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 3 (4:30 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. ET). Both matches will air live on The American Digital Network. The championship game is slated for a 2 p.m. ET start time on ESPNEWS and will feature the two semifinal winners Sunday, Nov. 5, for the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Tournament seeding is based on points accumulated through league play.
 
No. 1 UCF (12-1-2, 7-0-2 American) tied USF, 1-1 in double-overtime, Friday night to clinch the tournament's No. 1 seed. The Knights host UConn or Memphis Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
 
No. 2 USF (11-3-1, 7-1-1 American) faces Cincinnati -/24 or SMU in championship semifinals action next Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT. USF RV/RV finished one win short of the regular season title. The Bulls took UCF 7/6 to a 1-double-overtime draw Friday to take the No. 2 seed.
 
No. 3 Cincinnati (12-3-3, 5-2-2 American) faces SMU in the championship first round next Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. The 1-0 win over ECU on Friday solidified the tournament third seed for the Bearcats. Cincinnati will open tournament play against No. 6 SMU Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT.
 
 
No. 4 Memphis (10-5-3, 4-2-3 American) went scoreless in double overtime at Tulsa in its final game of the season Friday night. In a two-way tie for fourth-place in league standings with UConn, the Tigers clinched the No. 4 seed due to the 3-2 win over the Huskies in regular season. The Tigers will play match-up against No. 5 UConn Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
 
No. 5 UConn (7-8-3, 5-4-0 American) topped Temple in its final game of the season, 3-2, to secure a spot in the first round. The Huskies will play against No. 4 Memphis Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
 
No. 6 SMU (9-6-3, 4-4-1 American) edged Houston in its final game of the season, 1-0, to earn the last spot in the first round of the tournament. The Mustangs will kick off tournament action against No. 3 Cincinnati -/24 Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT.
