USF, SMU Play to a Scoreless Draw on Sunday

After 110 minutes of action, USF and SMU played to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Corbett Soccer Stadium.

Bulls keeper Christian Knight turned in his third shutout of the season thanks to a career-high 15 saves. Knight faced 28 shots in 110 minutes, 15 on goal. USF held the Mustangs scoreless for just the second time this season. Knight’s 15 saves are the second most saves recorded in a single game in NCAA Division I this season. Mike Novotny (Eastern Illinois) recorded 16 saves against Western Michigan (Sept. 1).

Nelson registered seven saves in the net for SMU. He earned his fifth consecutive shutout and eighth of the season. With the draw, SMU remains in first place in the conference with UConn currently sitting in second in the league standings.

The Mustangs will host the Huskies on senior day in the regular-season finale next Saturday while USF finishes regular season play at Temple on Nov. 4.
