Highlights
 
- Home teams went 4-2 on Friday night, as American Athletic Conference play continued with the league’s fourth week of conference action. UCF and Cincinnati extended their winning streaks and remain undefeated in league matches with 6-0 records. UConn, Memphis, Tulane and Wichita State joined them in earning Friday wins. The Knights and Bearcats are two matches ahead of the three teams tied for third place (ECU, Tulsa and Wichita State). Conference play resumes Sunday, October 14, with six matches, including Cincinnati and Wichita State on the American Digital Network.
 
UCF 3, Temple 1
UCF extended its winning streak to 12 matches and remains undefeated in The American with a 6-0 mark and perfect at the Venue with a 9-0 record. Head coach Todd Dagenais became the second coach in program history to reach the 200-wins milestone. Offensively, outside hitters Kristina Fisher and McKenna Melville were dominate at the net. Fisher led the way with 18 kills on 44 swings for a .364 clip. Melville followed close behind with 16 kills and a .250 hitting percentage. Friday’s victory gave the Black and Gold 999 all-time wins. With their next win, UCF will become the 24th team in NCAA Division I history to hit the 1,000-mark. The Knights will try to make it 13 in a row on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against UConn.
 
UConn 3, USF 2
UConn began its Sunshine State road trip with a win, battling back to defeat USF in five sets. After dropping sets two and three, the Huskies clinched the final two frames to earn their first five-set win since September. UConn freshman Caylee Parker recorded a double-double of 25 kills and 13 digs. The league’s assists leader, Emma Turner, dished out 43 dimes and added 12 digs on the way to her 10th double-double of the season for the Huskies. Middle blocker Clara Payne knocked down 13 kills, while hitting .444 to lead USF’s attack. UConn will look to bring the energy to Orlando against first-place UCF, while the Bulls look to bounce back against Temple on Sunday.
 
Tulane 3, SMU 2
Four of the five sets came down to the final four points, as Tulane pulled away from SMU in the fifth frame to earn its second conference victory of the season. The Green Wave hit .476 in the fifth set and improves to 8-2 at home and 3-2 in five-set matches this year. Tulane’s Yvette Burcescu and Dayna Kern each had double-figure kills, as well as seven blocks a piece. Erika Hansel led the offense with 20 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. Four Mustangs reached double-digit kills, while three different players had double-figures in digs in the back row. The Green Wave will host Houston, while SMU travels to Memphis on Sunday.
 
Memphis 3, Houston 1
Memphis first-year head coach Sean Burdette picked up his first American Athletic Conference victory with a 3-1 win over Houston at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Hannah Flowers and Molly Murrihy each recorded double-doubles. Flowers logged her fifth career double-double with 18 kills and a career-best 13 digs. Murrihy’s double-double of 36 assists and 12 digs was her sixth of the season. Memphis wraps up its five-match conference homestand Sunday against SMU.
 
Cincinnati 3, Tulsa 1
Cincinnati joins UCF in remaining undefeated in conference play (6-0) after defeating Tulsa in four sets—snapping the Golden Hurricane’s perfect mark at the Reynolds Center this season. The Bearcats were led by right side and outside hitter Jordan Thompson, who knocked down 27 kills and added 18 digs, while hitting .392. Middle blocker Dasha Cabarkapa continued to impress up front by totaling seven blocks, including two solo stuffs. Cincinnati puts its undefeated conference slate on the line when it travels to 2017 champion Wichita State on Sunday. The match will be broadcasted live on the American Digital Network at 2:05 p.m. ET. 
 
Wichita State 3, ECU 0
Wichita State successfully defended its home court, as the Shockers remain undefeated at Charles Koch Arena after a sweep over ECU. The win ended the Pirates’ five-match winning streak. Wichita State used seven service aces in the victory. Outside hitter Tabitha Brown led the Shockers with eight kills, two service aces and 13 digs. The Shockers are back in action on Sunday when they host conference leader Cincinnati at 2 p.m. ET inside Charles Koch Arena.
