- The Sunshine State duo swept in the first November American Athletic Conference volleyball matches, as No. 23 UCF and USF extended their winning streaks. The Knights remain undefeated in conference play with a 12-0 record while riding an 18-match winning streak. USF has won four in a row and moved into the sole fifth-place spot with a 7-5 conference mark.
UCF 3, UConn 0
UCF’s defense continued to shine, as the Knights held UConn to hitting below .200 and knocked down 12 blocks on the way to their 18th-consecutive win. UCF won in straight sets for the eighth time this season. Freshman outside hitter McKenna Melville led the charge, recording her conference-high 17th double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs, while hitting .308. Anne-Marie Watson was a force at the net, hitting .533 with nine kills and five blocks. The Huskies were led by Iman McGary with 12 kills. UCF continues its road trip Saturday when it takes on Temple, while UConn stays at Gampel Pavilion, welcoming USF to the gym.
USF 3, Temple 1
USF picked up its second-straight four-set victory, defeating Temple to keep its swing going. After falling in the opening set, the Bulls won-out the final three frames. The Bulls hit .338 to earn its second-highest percentage of the year, as outside hitter Jac’cara Walker tallied 21 kills on a .315 hitting clip. Middle blockers Jaeden Brown and Clara Payne made their presence felt at the net, combining for 11 stuffs, as each hit over .400. Temple outside hitter Irem Asci recorded a double-double of 17 kills and 11 digs. USF travels to UConn, while Temple hosts first-place UCF on Saturday.
