Highlights

-  Cincinnati’s Jordan Thompson highlighted Friday night’s American volleyball action when she set the all-time conference record in single-season points. It marked the fifth conference record set by the redshirt junior this season. Four teams began their November slates with a win, as the Bearcats and Tulane each earned sweep victories. Tulsa won in four sets, while SMU ended the night with an exciting come-from-behind five-set victory over Memphis. Tulsa and Tulane have each won at least three-straight matches, while Cincinnati and SMU each rebounded from a loss in the final weekend of October. The race to the top of The American’s volleyball standings continues Saturday with two matches.

Tulsa 3, ECU 1
Tulsa managed its third-straight win in a 3-1 victory over ECU. The Golden attacked with efficiency in the victory, hitting a season-high .324 as a team. Mariah Pardo handled the vast majority of setting duties, racking up a season-high 49 assists. Third-place Tulsa will take on second-place Cincinnati on Sunday. ECU will stay at home to face Wichita State.

Cincinnati 3, Wichita State 0
Cincinnati opened the new Fifth Third Arena with a 3-0 sweep of Wichita State—a match that went to five sets in the two teams’ first meeting of the season last month. The Bearcats’ offense was lethal, attacking at a season-high .483 percent with 53 kills and 47 digs in the three sets. Thompson became the conference’s all-time leader in single-season points, ending the night with 702.5 so far in 2018 after leading her side with 24 kills and a .611 hitting clip. The American’s second and third place teams will clash on Sunday when Cincinnati welcomes Tulsa to the gym. Wichita State will look to rebound at ECU.

SMU 3, Memphis 2
SMU completed a five-set comeback, winning the last three sets for a 3-2 victory against Memphis to remain unbeaten at home in American Athletic Conference matches this season. Freshman Hannah Jacobs led the Mustangs with 15 kills. Brittany Adams and Rachel Woulfe each scored 14 kills, and Meryn Kennedy added 11 kills with seven blocks. Outside hitter Hannah Flowers led Memphis with 20 kills on a .381 hitting percentage. The Tigers will look to bounce back at Houston, as SMU will put its perfect 6-0 conference home slate on the line against Tulane, who has won its past eight matches.

Tulane 3, Houston 0
Tulane extended its winning streak to eight conference matches, defeating Houston in straight sets. The Green Wave have swept 12 opponents this season. Junior right side hitter Erika Hansel continued to dominate the court offensively, tallying 12 kills to record her fourth-consecutive match with double-digit kills. Tulane is set to head to Dallas next for the team's second match-up in its Texas road trip against SMU. Houston will face Memphis at home.
