Cincinnati 78, Tulsa 41
University of Cincinnati women's basketball continued its recent dominance at home with a 78-41, blowout win against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday at Saint Ursula Academy Gymnasium & Convocation Center in its annual Wear Pink game, presented by UC Health.
Featuring four double-digit scorers for the second-consecutive game, guard Ana Owens paced the Bearcats with a game-best 13 points. The senior also dished out a game-high four assists. Sophomore guard Antoinette Miller continued her strong play off the bench with 11 points. Junior Nikira Goings and senior forward Shanice Johnson each scored 10 points. Additionally, Johnson just missed her second double-double of the season with a game-high nine rebounds.
Crystal Polk led Tulsa with 10 points while Morgan Brady finished with nine and Rebecca Lescay added six points. Lescay and Tyjae' Scales each had a team-best six rebounds.
Cincinnati had a 44-26 lead in rebounds, a 15-7 advantage in assists and a 9-3 lead in steals, while Tulsa had a 4-2 edge in blocks.?
Wichita State 52, SMU 45
Wichita State held SMU to 27.9 percent shooting to collect a big road win, 52-45, Saturday afternoon in Moody Coliseum.The Shockers (12-16, 7-7) sweep the season series with the Mustangs and has won back-to-back games after snapping a four-game slide.
Rangie Bessard led all scorers with 16 points, despite shooting just 5-of-15 from the floor. Keke Thompson the only other Shocker in double-figures with 12 points to go with six boards.
The two teams struggled for much of the afternoon offensively. The Shockers hit 37.5 percent from the field, but sealed the win at the free throw line, going 14-of-19. The Mustangs couldn't get a basket to fall, finishing at 27.9 percent. SMU misfired on 22 of its 26 attempts from beyond the arc and committed 19 turnovers as well.
Ariana Whitfield led SMU (10-17, 4-10) with 14 points and seven rebounds and McKenzie Adams tallied eight of her 10 points in the opening quarter.
Houston 97, ECU 81
The Houston Cougar Women’s Basketball team never trailed in a 97-81 win over ECU Saturday and hit the 20-win mark for the 12th time in program history. The 20-win season is the first since the 2010-11 Houston team had a 26-6 record en route to becoming the last Houston team to advance to an NCAA tournament.
The Cougars were led by sophomore guard Angela Harris who poured in a career-high 32 points with career highs in field goals (11) and 3-point field goals (7). Harris also pulled down a career-best eight rebounds and was one assist away from tying a career high, finishing Saturday with six. She led four Houston players in double-figures, including Jasmyne Harris (21), Octavia Barnes (13) and Serithia Hawkins (10).
For ECU, junior forward Destiny Campbell piled on a career-high 20 points, all coming off field goals on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. Campbell also led ECU with eight rebounds.
