Wichita State 3, Howard 1
It was a Sunday battle between two 2017 NCAA tournament teams, as Wichita State took down last year’s MEAC champion Howard, 3-1. The Shockers improve to 2-0, joining Houston, USF and Tulane with a perfect opening weekend. With the win, the conference improves to 23-11 through its early nonconference slate.
OH Tabitha Brown recorded 16 kills to lead Wichita State’s offense that averaged a .270 hitting percentage, guided by setter Kali Eaken with 31 assists. In the back row, libero Giorgia Civita bumped 27 digs, helping to holding Howard to hitting .227.
Wichita State returns to action tomorrow evening with its final match of its season-opening Washington, D.C. road trip against VCU at 5 p.m. ET. on ESPN3.
