Wichita State 3, VCU 2
Wichita State battled back after dropping the fourth set, scoring 10 of the final 15 points of the match to capture its third-straight win on the road in a 3-2 victory at VCU. The Shockers join Houston, USF and Tulane in enjoying a 3-0 start to the 2018 season. They have now defeated three-straight 2017 NCAA tournament teams with wins over James Madison and Howard over the during their first road trip of the year.
Megan Taflinger (15 kills) and Tabitha Brown (13 kills) led Wichita State’s offense that averaged at least a .295 hitting percentage in each of the three sets it won. The Shockers took the first set, 25-17, the third set, 25-18 and the fifth set, 15-9. Brown added 12 digs to earn her second double-double this season, while setter Jordan Roberts had 22 assists and 12 digs to join her with a double-double. Libero Giorgia Civita recorded 30 digs to lead the way in the back row, registering her second match of the season with at least 30 digs.
Wichita State will be back in action this weekend at the BYU Nike Invitational, where it will face three teams that earned 2017 post season bids, including West Virginia, No. 1 Stanford and No. 9 BYU.
