Tulsa Downs Crosstown Rival Oral Roberts

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Tulsa women's soccer team captured a 3-1 win over crosstown rival Oral Roberts to claim the Spectrum Cup on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. Both UConn and Temple ran into staunch defenses in 1-0 defeats.

NJIT 1, Temple 0
Temple women's soccer (3-5) fell 1-0 to NJIT (5-2-1) after the Highlanders netted the game-winning goal in the 89th minute of play.

Defender Kat McCoy executed a well-timed tackle in the 51st minute to clear a dangerous cross. McCoy broke up the play and prevented a quality Highlanders' goal opportunity when she cut off a sliding NJIT player. In the 88th minute, goalie Morgan Basileo tallied a big save to keep the match locked at 0-0. Basileo connected with the soaring shot by NJIT's Arianna Gerber and tipped it over the crossbar.

NJIT's game-winning goal came in the 89th minute. Gerber beat her defender and delivered the deciding goal.

The Owls head to Staten Island, N.Y. to face the Wagner Seahawks on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m.


Eastern Michigan 1, UConn 0
The UConn women's soccer team was unable to capitalize on early scoring opportunities and lost 1-0 to Eastern Michigan on Friday night in front of 1101 fans at Morrone Stadium.

UConn held a 7-3 shot and 5-1 corner kick advantage at the end of the first half but trailed 1-0 to the Eagles. Sabrina McNeil scored her third goal of the season at the 41:28 mark to push Eastern Michigan in front.

Goalkeeper Randi Palacios registered six saves including a couple in the second half that kept the Huskies within striking distance.

UConn now shifts its focus to American Athletic Conference play with a road trip to the state of Texas. The Huskies face Houston on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET

Tulsa captured a 3-1 win over crosstown rival Oral Roberts to claim the Spectrum Cup on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. Coach Kyle Cussen is undefeated against Oral Roberts in his time at Tulsa, owning an 8-0-3 mark against the Golden Eagles.

Anna Williams scored her fourth goal of the season as she headed in a rebound attempt that was taken by Valiree Morris and was saved by Reagan Richins at the 20:58 mark. Mia Darden also earned her fourth goal of the season as she shot from eight yards out on the right side into the lower right corner to put Tulsa up 2-0, but Jordan Langebartels got one back for the Golden Eagles in the 69th minute as she shot from 15 yards out on the right side.

Alyssa Kaiser recorded a score in the 77th minute, her first of the season, as she shot from 25 yards out on the right side.

Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, September 16th as TU hosts Kansas State beginning at 2:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
