Cincinnati 3, Florida State 2
Cincinnati (5-1) finished the weekend 3-0 with their second-straight 3-2 win over a Power 6 team, taking down Florida State in a thriller that came down to the final four points at the Colorado State Invitational. Jordan Thompson hammered home the game-winning kill in the fifth set, finishing the match with 32 kills, a .343 hitting percentage, four aces and 10 digs. Thompson ended the weekend averaging 6.57 kills per set with three double-doubles. She has reached at least 20 kills in each match this season after recording her second 30-plus kill performance. Her 32 kills tie for fourth all-time in American Athletic Conference history. She was named MVP of the tournament.
ECU 3, N.C. Central 0
ECU (5-2) extended its winning streak to three matches Sunday afternoon, downing N.C. Central 3-0. Bri Wood paced the offense with nine kills while adding five digs and three blocks and freshman S'mara Riley continued her strong early-season play with eight kills, five blocks and a .438 hitting percentage.
No. 4 Florida 3, UCF 1
UCF (3-3) battled but came up short of defeating its second-straight top-10 opponent in a 3-1 loss to No. 4 Florida. Kristina Fisher and McKenna Melville each led the attack with 15 kills. After falling by two points in the opening set (25-24), the Knights took the second set, 25-17. The third set came down to the final two points (25-23) with Florida coming out on top. The Gators took the final frame to clinch the win.
