FINAL RESULTS
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Athletes from the American Athletic Conference completed the cross country season by taking part in the 2019 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in Terre Haute. Tulsa was represented in both the women’s 6K and the men’s 10K team competitions, while Winny Koskei from Wichita State and Mia Nahom from UConn each took part in the women’s 6K as individual entrants.
The Tulsa men’s squad put forth an impressive showing in the men’s 10K, logging a team finish of fifth place overall out of 31 total teams. It was the best finish at the NCAA Championships for the Golden Hurricane men in program history. Patrick Dever led the way for the Golden Hurricane with a time of 30:59.4 for 11th place and All-American honors. Peter Lynch crossed the finish line in 13th place individually with a time of 31:04.3, joining Dever as an All-American.
Koskei was the top individual finisher from The American in the women’s 6K, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:55.1 to claim 47th place. Koskei missed out on All-American honors for the second straight season by less than seven seconds. Tulsa finished in 25th place overall on the strength of a 67th-place showing by Caitlin Klopfer (21:02.9). It marked the highest team placement and individual result at the national meet for the Golden Hurricane in program history. Nahom logged a time of 21:43.1 for 161st place representing UConn.
Aaron Bienenfeld, who doubled as the champion of both The American and the NCAA Great Lakes Region for Cincinnati, qualified for the NCAA Championships but chose to forgo the meet in preparation to try to qualify for the German Under-23 team at December’s European Cross Country Championships in Portugal.
