Cincinnati (20-5, 11-1) faced a 2-1 deficit to UConn (9-15, 3-9) in the midst of Senior Day festivities on Sunday at Fifth Third Arena, but that is precisely when the Bearcats lone senior made her impact. Jordan Thompson logged a career-high 50 kills to lead Cincinnati to a five-set comeback win over the Huskies, 25-18, 24-26, 23-25, 25-14, 15-7.
 
Thompson, who previously held the top American Athletic Conference mark with 44 kills against Wichita State on Oct. 14, 2018, became the first NCAA Division I player with at least 50 kills in a match since Loyola Marymount’s Sarah McFarland logged 52 against Ohio State on Sept. 10, 1999. Thompson’s effort was just the seventh 50-kill match overall in DI volleyball history.
 
Along with the kills total, Thompson hit at a .530 clip with 11 digs in the win for Cincinnati. Maria Mallon added 16 kills, 21 digs and three service aces, and Armania Heckenmueller contributed 60 assists (fourth 60-assist match of the season) for the Bearcats.
 
Kennadi Jake-Turner turned in a .522 attack percentage and 13 kills in the hard-luck loss for UConn, while Jasmine Davis added 11 kills and nine digs. Courtney Morris logged a double-double with 44 assists and 13 digs.
 
UCF 3, SMU 1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19)
 
UCF (18-6, 11-1) won its ninth straight match overall with an impressive Sunday showing at SMU (15-7, 8-4), defeating the Mustangs at Moody Coliseum in Dallas by way of a 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19 final.
 
McKenna Melville ripped 20 kills and added 12 digs in the UCF triumph, and Kristina Fisher added a double-double of her own with 13 kills and 12 digs. Anne-Marie Watson contributed 13 kills and eight block assists, and Lache Harper added a match-high 11 blocks.
 
Rachel Woulfe registered 17 kills to lead SMU, and Jadyn Bauss turned in 16 kills and seven digs. Montana Watts chipped in a match-high 18 digs, while Lily Heim logged 53 assists and 11 digs.
 
Houston 3, Wichita State 0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-23)
 
Houston (15-12, 9-3) got back on its winning way, extending its lead in the West Division of The American with a sweep of Wichita State (7-17, 4-8) by a 25-19, 25-20, 25-23 final score.
 
Megan Duncan’s 12 kills and four digs paved the way for Houston in the win, and Rachel Tullos added 10 kills. Katie Karbo turned in a match-high 19 digs, while Claire Karsten chipped in eight kills and eight digs.
 
Brylee Kelly led the way for Wichita State with 11 kills, and Nicole Anderson added nine kills and five digs. Kara Bown logged 14 digs for the Shockers.
 
Tulane 3, Tulsa 2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13)
 
Tulane (17-8, 7-5) battled tooth and nail with West Division foe Tulsa (14-11, 7-5) and came out on the other side with a 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13 decision against the Golden Hurricane in New Orleans.
 
Lexie Douglas paced Tulane with 22 kills and 12 digs, and Lauryn Green turned in 10 kills and eight blocks. Kaylie McHugh chipped in a team-high 21 digs, and Amanda Giardina recorded 37 assists, three aces and 12 digs for the Green Wave.
 
Dilara Gedikoglu registered 19 kills and 18 digs for Tulsa, and Taylor Horsfall shined once more with a match-high 36 digs. Roosa Rautio posted 25 assists and six digs for the Golden Hurricane.
 
East Carolina 3, Temple 0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-23)
 
East Carolina (18-8, 5-7) earned its third straight win by sweeping Temple (11-12, 2-10) in Greenville, North Carolina, by a final of 25-23, 26-24, 25-23.
 
Bri Wood posted 18 kills and 14 digs in the win for ECU, and Brandee Markwith added a team-high 15 digs. Shelby Martin turned in 24 assists and seven digs for the Pirates.
 
Gem Grimshaw led the way for Temple with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Peyton Boyd finished with 12 kills and eight digs.
 
Memphis 3, USF 1 (25-15, 15-25, 25-16, 25-16)
 
Memphis (15-9, 4-8) coasted past USF (7-19, 1-11) in four sets on Sunday, finishing 25-15, 15-25, 25-16, 25-16.
 
Hannah Flowers capped off the win for Memphis with 18 kills, two service aces and three blocks, while Meredith Wallace added a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs. Sabrina Bianco notched 42 assists and 13 digs, while Kaitlyn Gehler led the Tigers with a match-high 18 digs.
 
Lindsay Pliapol posted 10 kills and nine digs in the loss for USF, Lauren LaBeck chipped in 27 assists and five digs.
