Arkansas 98, Tulsa 79 - Box Score

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- With a week to think about his worst shooting performance of the season, Arkansas junior guard Mason Jones said he just focused on one thing heading into Saturday's game against Tulsa: Bounce back.

Jones shot 1-of-9 from the floor in an 86-79 road loss to Western Kentucky last Saturday when he scored just 8 points in Arkansas' first loss of the season.

It was a complete reversal against Tulsa as Jones hit his first shot of the game, a 3-pointer 57 seconds in and finished with a career-high 41 as the Razorbacks picked up a 98-79 win.

Arkansas (9-1) built a 16-point first-half lead, then held off a Tulsa run midway through the second half that saw the Razorbacks' lead trimmed to single-digits.

Jones did his damage in a variety of ways, including five 3-pointers and three three-point plays on slashing drives to the basket. He also had six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Jones did not do it alone. Fellow backcourt mate Isaiah Joe scored 20 points and hit three of his first four 3-point attempts to help the Razorbacks grab an early double-digit lead that swelled to as much as 16 points with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

Joe, who was 8-of-14 from the floor and had four 3-pointers, said the week between games was big to help the team recharge from the loss to Western Kentucky.

Tulsa (8-3) rallied midway through the second half and pulled within nine points at 68-59 on Darien Jackson's breakaway layup with 11:49 left, but Jones had an answer, going on a personal 10-0 run that bumped Arkansas' lead to 81-61 with 8:07 left. In the run, Jones had a three-point play, a 3-pointer and four straight free throws.

Tulsa coach Frank Haith said his team had no answer for Joe and Jones.

Elijah Joner led Tulsa with 19 points and Martins Igbanu finished with 18.

No. 13/17 Memphis 51, No. 19/17 Tennessee 47 - Box Score

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Even the newcomers on Memphis’ freshmen-laden roster who didn’t play in a loss to Tennessee last year understood the importance of avenging that defeat.

The 13th-ranked Tigers got their revenge Saturday. Not only did Memphis beat its in-state rival, it snapped the longest active home winning streak of any Division I team and prevented Tennessee coach Rick Barnes from reaching a career milestone.

Damion Baugh sank a 3-pointer with 1:43 remaining to put Memphis ahead for good and the Tigers outlasted No. 19 Tennessee 51-47 to end the Volunteers’ 31-game home winning streak.

“We came in with a little chip on our shoulders to get some revenge,” said freshman D.J. Jeffries, who scored 11 points and assisted on Baugh’s go-ahead basket. “We did that and I couldn’t be more happy with the guys. We grew up today, so I’m proud of everyone.”

Tyler Harris also scored 11 points and Baugh added 10 for Memphis (9-1), which found a way to win despite scoring just five points in the game’s first 12 minutes.

Josiah-Jordan James scored 14 for Tennessee (7-2). The Vols shot 25% - their lowest field-goal percentage of Barnes’ five-year tenure - and were just 4 of 26 from 3-point range.

Tennessee’s loss prevented Barnes from becoming the seventh active Division I coach to reach 700 victories. Barnes’ 699 career wins include a 102-92 victory at Memphis last year.

The sellout crowd at Thompson-Boling Arena showered Hardaway with boos as he walked onto the court before Saturday’s game. Jeffries said Memphis players started getting booed as soon as they walked off the bus.

That crowd may have made an early impact as Memphis scored just five points in the first 12 minutes and went 10-plus minutes without making a basket during one stretch. One week after erasing an early 20-point deficit in a victory at UAB, Memphis was trailing Tennessee 17-5 midway through the first half.

“When you have a young team, you just really don’t know,” said Hardaway, who started four freshmen Saturday. “We were well prepared, but you never can account for the nervous energy. Last week at UAB, I think they took those guys lightly, and they jumped on us, and this week I think they were too hyper to get into the game because they knew what kind of game it was going to be. That’s what you get with young teams.”

Neither team led by more than four in the second half. Memphis was trailing by a point when Jeffries drove the baseline and passed to Baugh, who sank an open 3-pointer to put the Tigers ahead to stay at 49-47.

Tennessee had a chance to tie with 22 seconds remaining, but Yves Pons missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity. Memphis’ Alex Lomax sank both ends of a one-and-one with 7.9 seconds left to seal the victory.

ECU 79, Campbell 67 - Box Score

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Jayden Gardner had 22 points as East Carolina topped Campbell 79-67 on Saturday.

Gardner hit 14 of 16 from the free throw line.

Brandon Suggs had 16 points for East Carolina (3-7), which snapped its four-game losing streak. J.J. Miles added 12 points. Tristen Newton had 11 points for the hosts.

Cedric Henderson Jr. had 18 points for the Fighting Camels (6-3). Milos Stajcic added 11 points. Austin McCullough had 11 points.

Wichita State 80, Oklahoma 75 - Box Score

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Erik Stevenson scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Wichita State to an 80-75 victory over Oklahoma on Saturday.

A late three-point basket by Tyson Etienne gave the Shockers the lead, 67-66, and the Shockers were able to hold on, limiting the Sooners to 37.3% shooting from the field.

''They did what they needed to do down the stretch, make free throws to close it out,'' Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger said. ''As always (Wichita State coach) Gregg (Marshall) does a great job. He has a good club and we've got to learn from it.''

Wichita State relied on the three-ball early, knocking down four shots from beyond the arc in the first ten minutes to open a 14-8 lead. Trading run-for-run, a 9-0 Sooner stretch gave Oklahoma the edge before a 6-0 answer handed the 20-15 lead back to Wichita State.

''It was obviously a game of runs,'' Stevenson said. ''It seemed like every shot they threw up was going in and we couldn't catch a break.''

Though the Shockers limited leading scorer and Wichita State transfer Austin Reaves to four first-half points, the Sooners took a 37-33 lead into the locker room, fueled by a 15-point opening half by Kristian Doolittle.

Doolittle finished with 22 points on an 8-of-22 effort and De'Vion Harmon added 14 for Oklahoma.

The Sooners weathered a 12-0 run by Wichita State midway through the second half and cut the deficit to 75-72 with under a minute remaining but were unable to complete the comeback.

''Everybody that played today contributed in some way and that's what it takes,'' Marshall said. ''You've got to have as many guys as possible contributing and clicking on all cylinders.''

Colgate 67, Cincinnati 66 - Box Score

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Boos raining down from the pro-Cincinnati crowd of 10,416 didn’t bother Tucker Richardson as he stood at the free-throw line.

They actually helped the Colgate sophomore.

After Will Rayman broke free for a game-tying layup with eight seconds left, Richardson sank the front end of a bonus situation with 1.6 seconds remaining as the visiting Raiders came from behind for a 67-66 win over the Bearcats.

Jarron Cumberland took a hurried, long-range shot with 4.6 seconds left and in the scramble for the rebound, Jaevin Cumberland was whistled for the foul that sent Richardson to the line.

Rapolas Ivanauskas scored 21 points for Colgate (8-4), 19 in the second half. Nelly Cummings added 14 with three steals and Richardson finished with 11 points for the Raiders, who've won seven of their last eight games.

Chris Vogt had 16 points to lead Cincinnati (6-3), which has lost two in a row. Keith Williams scored 13 of his 15 in the second half, and Jaevin Cumberland came off the bench to score 13.

The Raiders scored 24 points off 16 Cincinnati turnovers.
