Highlights
-Cincinnati closed the fall semester at a pair of competitions last weekend. The Bearcat men placed third (1,317.5 points) and the women fourth (1,317 points) at the Akron Zippy Invitational in Akron, Ohio. Noah Smith was a double-winner in the 500 freestyle (4:25.81, meet record) and the 1650 freestyle (15:24.14, NCAA B-cut) for Cincinnati in men’s racing, while Rocky Laabs added a pair of wins in the 500 free (4:47.27, meet record) and the 1650 free (16:37.96) for the Bearcat women. Zach Baecker added a 200 breaststroke victory with a finals time of 1:57.65. At the Toyota U.S. Open in Atlanta, a number of Cincinnati athletes took to the water over the course of the meet. Blake Hanna posted a top preliminary finish for the Bearcats with a time of 2:03.91 to finish 27th in the men’s 200-meter backstroke, while Dominic Polling notched a 26th-place showing in the 200 IM in 2:03.76.
-UConn capped the fall semester at the Rutgers Invite in Piscataway, New Jersey. Gavin Moak logged an NCAA B-cut time of 15:25.89 to win the 1650 freestyle, adding a runner-up result of 1:51.82 in the 200 butterfly. Orry Zayit chipped in a win for the Huskies in the 200 fly with a time of 1:49.72, and Emils Jurcik established a school record by winning the 200 IM (1:46.99). On the women’s side Catherine Fazio led UConn with a season-best 1:59.90 effort to win the 200 backstroke, and Georgia Apostolu added a victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of :54.99. Elizabeth Drab won the 1-meter dive with 257.60 points.
-Houston sent a strong contingent to Atlanta to take part in the Toyota U.S. Open last weekend. Peyton Kondis posted a 23rd-place time of 1:10.28 in the 100-meter breaststroke to reach the event C-Final, and added a 45th-place showing in the 200-meter IM (2:18.66). Ioanna Sacha placed 12th in the prelims of the 200-meter backstroke, ultimately taking fifth in the B-Final with a time of 2:15.35.
-Tulane also competed at the Toyota U.S. Open last weekend, with Olivia Johnson, Kate McDonald and Lilly Byrne turning in top-40 showings for the Green Wave. Johnson notched a PR in the 1500-meter freestyle with a time of 16:56.46 for 22nd place, followed by Byrne in 35th place with a time of 17:18.61. McDonald tied for 33rd in the 200-meter breaststroke with a PR time of 2:35.02.
-Representing SMU at the Toyota U.S. Open, Felicia Anderson placed 28th overall in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:17.02. Anderson added a 41st-place result in the 100-meter back with a time of 1:03.36. Erin Trahan turned in a 38th-place showing in the 200-meter butterfly (2:17.73) and a 49th-place effort in the 100-meter fly (1:01.49).
