Tulsa 3, Mercer 2; Tulsa 2, North Dakota 0

Pitchers Chenise Delce and Samantha Pochop combined for 25 strikeouts over 14 innings to lead Tulsa to wins over Mercer and North Dakota on Friday. Delce started the day with a season-high 12 strikeouts to lead the Golden Hurricane, who have now won four straight, to a 3-2 victory over Mercer. Pochop then recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts and yielded just one hit for her second consecutive shutout as Tulsa topped North Dakota, 2-0.

In the opener, Morgan Neal's two-out double completed a seventh-inning rally that gave Tulsa the win, while Haley Meinen went 2-for-3 with an RBI to back another strong performance in the circle by Delce, who allowed just three hits and two runs with 12 strikeouts. Julia Hollingsworth went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the win over North Dakota as Pochop allowed only one hit, in the top of the first, along with her 13 strikeouts.

Wichita State 8, Southeast Missouri State 0 (5 innings); Wichita State 5, Abilene Christian 1

For the first time this season Wichita State swept a doubleheader, defeating Southeast Missouri State 8-0 in five innings before holding Abilene Christian to three hits on the way to 5-1 win.

Against Southeast Missouri State, Bailey Lange tossed five shutout innings for her first win of the season. Lange was also a heavy contributor on offense, hitting her first home run of the season and driving in two RBI. Asea Webber drove in two runs of her own, while Laurie Derrico and Neleigh Herring added an RBI each. The Shockers scored in five innings against Abilene Christian, as Sydney McKinney, Wylie Glover, Lange and Derrico all tallied two hits. Caitlin Bingham earned her third win of the year after allowing one run on three hits in 4.1 innings in the circle.

ECU 7, Wagner 6; ECU 9, Cleveland State 8 (8 innings)

ECU continued its hot start to the 2019 campaign Friday, claiming a pair of walkoff wins over Wagner and Cleveland State on day one of the Pirate Clash at the ECU Softball Stadium. The Pirates scored five in the seventh inning to knock off Wagner 7-6 before downing Cleveland State 9-8 in eight innings in the nightcap.

Ashleigh Inae shone in the doubleheader, going 5-for-7 with four runs scored, a double, a RBI and a stolen base. Tate McClellan also filled up the stat sheet with two hits, three runs scored, a double, a home run and three RBI. Logan Wood was an offensive catalyst against Cleveland State, tallying two hits, a run scored and four RBI as well as a grand slam in the first inning. Erin Poepping picked up the win in contests, throwing a complete game against Wagner and allowing six runs (two earned) on 13 hits with a walk and three strikeouts. In the second game, she entered in the eighth inning and retired Cleveland State in order with a strikeout before ECU walked off in the eighth frame.

Memphis 4, FGCU 0

Memphis started strong at the FGCU Invitational with a 4-0 victory over FIU Friday afternoon. Mariah Nichols tossed a complete game shutout for the Tigers, the first of her career, allowing three hits and striking out five. Baylee Smith and Alyssa Dean highlighted the offense for Memphis as each player tallied two hits and Smith drove in a team-high three runs.

Ashley Threatt extended her on base streak to eight games after drawing a pair of walks, Alyssa Dean finished with her first career multi-hit game which included a double in the second inning and Samantha Ibison recorded her team-leading ninth hit.

Maryland 4, Houston 2; Houston 4, Nevada 0

Houston opened day one of the Houston Classic on Friday splitting its contests against Maryland and Nevada, beginning the day falling the Terps 4-2 before bouncing back to take down Nevada in a 4-0 decision.

Against Maryland, Tierrah Williams had a home run and Kelli Montgomery added an RBI single. Savannah Heebner struck out five in a complete game loss. Pitcher Presely Bell led the way with her presence in the circle in the win over Nevada, tossing a complete-game shutout, having allowed just three hits in the process. Lindsey Stewart and Aspen Howie launched solo home runs, their first of the season. In that matchup, Stewart led the Cougars with a pair of hits to go along with her two RBIs.

Alabama 2, USF 0; USF 4, Arizona 1

USF opened the Hillenbrand Invitational with a close loss, 2-0, to No. 7/8 Alabama before going on to upset No. 9/9 Arizona for the first time in program history, 4-1. In the opener against Alabama, Bethaney Keen recorded two of USF's three hits while Nicole Doyle was the tough-luck loser after allowing six hits and two runs (one earned) with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

Against Arizona, USF plated four runs in the top of the sixth to break open a scoreless game with RBIs from Mia Fung, Megan Pierro and Macy Cook. Georgina Corrick earned the complete game win after striking out six batters and allowing four hits and one run, a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Washington 3, UCF 1

In a close contest with the No. 5 Washington Huskies, UCF dropped its first game of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, 3-1 Friday evening. Jazmine Esparza drove in a run in the first inning to strike first for the Knights, but that would be their only run of the game. Esparza's RBI gives her four total RBI in five games, while Tamesha Glover collected a pair of hits in the loss. Alea White threw another complete game striking out four and allowing two earned runs.

Boston 7, UConn 3; USC Upstate 3, UConn 2

UConn dropped a pair of games on Friday, falling to Boston 7-3 on Friday morning before a 3-2 loss to tournament host USC Upstate on Friday afternoon. In the opener, Chloe Kerns' three-run double in the fifth inning accounted for all of the UConn offense, while Jill Stockley was saddled with the loss in the circle after allowing seven runs on 11 hits. A sixth inning run in the nightcap was the difference for USC Upstate, as Marybeth Olson allowed three runs on five hits with four strikeouts for the Huskies. Briana Marcelino's second inning two run double was part of her two-hit game to lead the UConn offense.
