Julia Hollingsworth hit two triples to set the program's career record as Tulsa extended its winning streak to six games with wins over Lipscomb and South Alabama on Saturday. Hollingsworth's triples came in the 8-3 win over South Alabama to give her 13 three-baggers in her career, surpassing Caitlin Everett (2010-13) for the top spot on the school's all-time charts. Morgan Neal also went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in the win over the host Jaguars.
The Golden Hurricane, who defeated Lipscomb 4-3 earlier in the day, stayed hot in the circle with solid outings from Kassidy Scott, Chenise Delce and Samantha Pochop. Scott earned the win and Pochop a save against Lipscomb, while Delce improved to 3-1 with a victory against South Alabama.
Memphis 6, FIU 0, Memphis 3, Lamar 0
Memphis put together back-to-back shutout victories at the FGCU Invitational Saturday to improve to 5-3 overall this season. Memphis opened the day with a 6-0 win over FIU before defeating Lamar 3-0 in game two of the day.
Karli Perque and Madalyn Alexander each earned victories in the circle for Memphis while Baylee Smith continued to have a strong showing at the plate. Smith went 4-for-5 with three extra base hits and three runs driven in. Smith was a home run away from the cycle in the win over FIU, while Sara Ann Davidson recorded hits in both games Saturday, including a double in the FIU victory.
Wichita State 13, Louisiana Tech 3; Wichita State 11, Mississippi Valley State 5
Wichita State won a pair of games on Saturday, first snapping tournament host Louisiana Tech's winning streak with a 13-3 victory and then wrapping up the night with an 11-5 win over Mississippi Valley State. The Shockers scored 10 unanswered runs combined across the fourth and fifth innings to beat Louisiana Tech before posting six runs in the first inning against Mississippi Valley State and never looking back.
Neleigh Herring had a pair of doubles and five RBI in the win over Louisiana Tech, while Lauren Mills and Laurie Derrico each drove in two RBI of their own. Caitlin Bingham earned the win in the circle after 3.1 innings of relief. Bailee Nickerson and Derrico led the Shockers with two hits and two RBI each in the nightcap, while Asea Webber and Herring also drove in two runs. Erin McDonald earned her first win as a Shocker, striking out five batters in 3.2 innings pitched.
ECU 7, St. Francis (Pa.) 5
Erin Poepping fanned a career-high 10 batters and Rachel McCollum hit a grand slam as ECU held off Saint Francis (Pa.) 7-5 on day two of the Pirate Clash Saturday. McCollum ended the contest 2-for-2 with two runs scored and five RBI while Tyler King and Abigail Umphlett posted a hit apiece and drove in a run. Poepping surrendered 13 hits and five runs, but only two were earned and she walked just one batter in addition to the 10 strikeouts. She tossed her fourth complete game of the season.
USF 7, UIC 5; Cal State Fullerton 5, USF 4
USF recorded a season-high seven runs against UIC, but fell in a heartbreaker to RV/RV Cal State Fullerton who got the walk-off win with two outs. USF went ahead early against the Flames and the Titans, but couldn't recover in the second game of the day when Titans scored two to take the lead in the fifth inning. The Bulls rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough when Cal State Fullerton hit the walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the frame.
Bethaney Keen, AnaMarie Bruni and Macy Cook all tallied two hits against UIC, with Keen driving in two runs and Cook adding an RBI of her own. Georgina Corrick earned the win against the Flames after 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Cook followed up game one with a three-hit, three RBI game in the nightcap, while Lindsey Devitt also added two hits in the loss.
UCF 7, Northern Colorado 0; Mississippi State 11, UCF 3
UCF split Saturday action in Mexico, grabbing a 7-0 win over Northern Colorado in the first game of the day before falling to No. 25 Mississippi State 11-3.
Jazmine Esparza, Alicia Tomberlin and Denali Schappacher all tallied two hits in the win over Northern Colorado, with Esparza and Tomberlin each driving in three RBI. Breanna Vasquez tossed her second shutout of the season, allowing three hits with 10 strikeouts. Esparza and Aubrey Johnson tallied a hit and RBI a piece in the second game, while Alea White allowed seven runs on nine hits in 1.2 innings to get the loss against Mississippi State.
Houston 12, Maryland 4; Nicholls State 2, Houston 0 (8 innings)
Houston began Saturday with a 12-4 win over Maryland in five innings before dropping a 2-0 contest with Nicholls in eight innings. On the day, Maya Thomas went 4-for-7 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Charese Wyatt connected on her first career home run, tallying a career-high four RBIs against Maryland. Charese Wyatt had a homer and four RBI, while Maya Thomas and Sarah Queen each finished with three hits and two RBI. Pitcher Savannah Heebner tossed a complete game, three-hitter against the Colonels, allowing no earned runs in the eight total innings she pitched. She finished the game with eight strikeouts.
Boston 9, UConn 3; USC Upstate 4, UConn 2
UConn dropped a pair of games on Saturday, falling to Boston 9-3 before a 4-2 loss to tournament host USC Upstate. In the opener, Reese Guevarra and Kelli Bates each finished with two hits for the Huskies, and Katie Koshes took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits in 3.1 innings. In the nightcap against USC Upstate, Devon Casazza's two-run homer in the second inning would be all the offense UConn would tally, as Jill Stockley allowed four runs on six hits in 4.2 innings in the circle and was saddled with the loss.
