UCF Wins Pair to Highlight Saturday Play

UCF 5, ECU 3 (Game 1); UCF 7, ECU 2 (Game 2)
UCF completed its second straight American Athletic Conference sweep Saturday afternoon against ECU with a pair of wins. The Knights took game one, 5-3 and immediately followed the win with another victory, 7-2. Alea White picked up both wins on the day, while Cassady Brewer paced the Knights on offense racking up three hits with a double and a home run. Jazmine Esparza and Tamesha Glover added a home run each for a total of three on the day for UCF.

Rachel McCollum went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI while Tate McClellan and Ashley Weingartz also drove in a run each in the first game, while Tyler King, Olivia Narron and Weingartz each rapped out two hits. King and Logan Wood drove in a run apiece.
 

UConn 4, Wichita State 2
UConn defeated Wichita State on Saturday, 4-0, as the Huskies picked up their first American Athletic Conference win of the 2019 season behind the pair of home runs from Olivia Sappington and Briana Marcelino. UConn posted two runs in the second and two more in the third, and that would be all the offense needed for pitcher Marybeth Olson, who allowed five hits with five strikeouts in the complete game victory.
Kaylee Huecker led the Shockers with two doubles in three at-bats, while Sydney McKinney added two hits for her sixth multi-hit game of her career. Erin McDonald pitched her sixth complete game of the season and added a strikeout in the loss.
 

USF 3, Houston 0
Nicole Doyle one-hit Houston in USF's 3-0 shutout for its first series win of conference play. USF scored three runs on three hits, highlighted Riley Gore’s two-run home run in the fifth inning. Doyle no-hit the Cougars for five innings, retiring ten straight batters until Houston put down a double for its only hit of the game. She struck out a pair and walked three, along with the one hit, in the complete game victory.

The Cougars collected one hit, a leadoff double from pitcher Savannah Heebner in the bottom of the fifth. Lindsey Stewart had her reached base streak ended at 24 games, with her 0-for-3 outing. In the circle, Heebner went the distance and pitched all seven innings in the loss, tossing her 14th complete game of the season.
 

Tulsa 10, Memphis 4
Tulsa rallied from an early 3-run deficit to defeat Memphis, 10-4, on Saturday in the second game of its American Athletic Conference series at Collins Family Softball Complex. Sarah Briers drove in three runs, while Mikayla Whitten and Alexis Perry each drove in a pair for the Golden Hurricane. Josie Muffley and Chenise Delce each recorded multi-hit games, while Samantha Pochop improved to 8-5 in the circle with 5.2 scoreless innings of relief.

Memphis scattered nine hits in the loss. Ashley Threatt recorded a team-leading three hits on the afternoon while Aungst and Morton led Memphis with two RBI each. Ashley Threatt reached base for the 11th consecutive game, extending her hitting streak to a team-leading five games, with her three-hit afternoon.
