Memphis 5, DePaul 4
Memphis head coach Natalie Poole earned her 500th career victory in the Tigers’ 5-4 win over DePaul Friday evening at the UofM Softball Tournament. The Tigers rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to win their fifth straight contest. The contest against the Blue Demons wasn't without theatrics as Memphis threw two base runners out at home and hit back-to-back home runs to regain the lead.
Bayleigh Wisher improved to 4-1 on the year with four innings of relief in the circle, while Ashley Threatt registered her fifth multi-hit game of the year with a team-leading two hits. Regan Hadley hit her third home run and Ryleigh Aungst hit her second home run of the season. This was Memphis' third multi-home run game.
UCF 9, Seton Hall 0; UCF 3, St. Joseph’s 0
UCF picked up two shutouts Friday afternoon against Seton Hall and Saint Joseph’s in the opening games of the USF Clearwater Tournament. The Knights took care of Seton Hall in five innings with a 9-0 shutout and then followed with a 3-0 win over Saint Joseph’s. Kaitlyn Jensen and Tamesha Glover both delivered home runs on offense in the wins, while Alea White and Breanna Vasquez each threw complete game shutouts and allowed just two hits each.
White tossed a two-hitter against Seton Hall striking out seven and walking four, while Vasquez also threw a two-hitter in the win over Saint Joseph’s, striking out four. At the plate, Erin Emanuel collected three hits, three runs, and two RBI on the day along with a stolen base.
USF 7, Wisconsin 1; USF 7, Massachusetts 1
USF is up to six straight wins after defeating No. 23/20 Wisconsin and UMass, both by a score of 7-1. Wisconsin marks the Bulls' second ranked win this season and victory number 950 for head coach Ken Eriksen.
Five Bulls had multi-hit games in the doubleheader and Bruni had two. AnaMarie Bruni Bruni went 3-for-4 in both contests and scored two runs in each, while Macy Cook drove in four runs against UMass. Bethaney Keen, Tayli Filla and Cook all had a multi-RBI game on Friday.
ECU 6, Long Island 5 (8 inn.); ECU 12, FAU 5
After rallying for a 6-5 extra-inning win over Long Island in its first game of the Parent's Weekend Tournament Friday afternoon, ECU downed host FAU 12-5 in the evening to complete a doubleheader sweep at the FAU Softball Stadium.
Rachel McCollum had quite the day at the dish, posting five hits, three runs scored, six RBI and two home runs during the doubleheader. She was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI in the win over FAU. Tate McClellan notched two hits in each game and drove in a pair against Long Island. Additionally, Tyler King extended her hitting streak to 15 and was 2-for-4 with three RBI, a run scored and a double versus the Owls. She has reached base safely in all 19 games this season.
Tulsa 8, Grand Canyon 0
Tulsa scored seven runs over the final three innings to take an 8-0 run-rule victory in six innings over Grand Canyon on Friday afternoon at Marita Hynes Field. Josie Muffley posted a season-high four hits in as many at-bats with a double and RBI to lead a potent offensive attack for the Golden Hurricane. The hot bats from TU backed another strong outing for fellow freshman Chenise Delce, who improved to 5-3 on the season as she scattered three hits with five strikeouts over six scoreless frames.
UC Riverside 1, Houston 0 (8 inn.)
Houston opened its Southern California road trip on Friday being edged out by UC Riverside by a score of 1-0 in eight innings. Friday’s loss was Houston’s first loss of the year away from Cougar Softball Stadium. Presley Bell went the distance in the circle for the sixth time this season, finishing the day allowing just four hits and one walk, to go along with a pair of strikeouts. Lindsey Stewart had two of Houston’s four hits at the plate.
