USF’s Georgina Corrick held Memphis scoreless in her ninth shutout this season on Friday, limiting Memphis to just one hit in USF's 13th straight win in The American as the Bulls opened the series with a 2-0 victory. Corrick recorded her 21st win of the season with seven strikeouts, while Macy Cook went 3-for-3 in her ninth multi-hit game, her second game with three hits this season.
Memphis freshman Alyssa Dean broke up Corrick's no-hitter with a single in the seventh inning. Dean’s single was her team-leading 15th hit in conference play. Karli Perque struck out two in 5.0 innings of work as she took the loss, while Bayleigh Wisher saw an inning of action for the Tigers in relief.
UConn 10, ECU 3
UConn hit three home runs on the way to a 10-3 win over ECU to open an American Athletic Conference series Friday night. Olivia Sappington and Kiwi McDaniel notched three hits each while McDaniel scored two runs, drove in three and drew two walks. Marybeth Olson went the distance for the Huskies, posting seven strikeouts and allowing three runs on four hits.
Erin Poepping took the loss for ECU, surrendering three runs (two earned) on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Tate McClellan was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI to lead the Pirates offensively.
Houston 3, UCF 0
Houston Head Coach Kristin Vesely picked up her 100th career win on Friday night, as the Cougars took down UCF by a score of 3-0. The shutout also marks the 16th time this season that Houston has blanked an opponent, as Savannah Heebner earned her 11th victory of the year, surrendering just three hits in her seven innings pitched. Offensively, the Cougars saw three players record multiple hits in the game, with Sarah Barker, Kelli Montgomery and Arielle James each recording two hits. Aspen Howie capped off the three-run first frame with a two-RBI double.
Breanna Vasquez gave up nine hits and one earned run, while striking out three and taking the loss, while Damaria Cannon led the Knights at the plate with a pair of hits. Kaitlyn Jensen grabbed the third hit for UCF with a single through the left side.
Wichita State 4, Tulsa 0
Behind a shutout performance in the circle from Erin McDonald and a pair of timely runs in the fifth and sixth innings, Wichita State took game one of the weekend series with No. 25 Tulsa, 4-0, Friday night at the Collins Family Softball Complex. Bailee Nickerson extended her hitting streak to six games after going 2-for-3 with a double. Neleigh Herring was 1-for-3, but her one hit was a big one, being a two-run homer to break up a no-hitter and scoreless game in the fifth.
Mikayla Whitten had the only hit of the night for the Golden Hurricane (31-16, 12-4), with a two-out single in the fifth inning. Kassidy Scott did not allow a hit until the fourth but fell to 8-5 on the season after she allowed four runs on six hits through 5.2 frames.
