USF 5, Memphis 3
USF clinched its fifth straight series and tightened its grip on the top spot in The American with a 5-3 win over Memphis on Saturday evening. Kyndall Williams and Macy Cook each had a multi-hit game, while AnaMarie Bruni scored a run and drove in another. Bethaney Keen recorded her ninth multiple-RBI game of the year, and her third three-RBI game. Nicole Doyle earned her 11th win of the season, walking one batter and limiting the Tigers to three hits.
Alyssa Dean was the only Memphis player with two hits, while Ashley Threatt connected on a three-run double in the top of the sixth inning. Mariah Nichols was dealt the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts in three innings.
UConn 7, ECU 2
Visiting UConn tallied a pair of three-run innings on Saturday afternoon against ECU on the way to a 7-2 win in American play. Carli Cutler was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI to pace the Huskies, while Jill Stockley threw a complete game with three strikeouts. She scattered three hits and allowed two earned runs.
Morgan Halo was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk for ECU. Erin Poepping was saddled with the loss, giving up three unearned runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout.
UCF 4, Houston 1
UCF picked up its 30th win of the season Saturday afternoon at the UCF softball Complex with a 4-1 win over Houston. The Knights evened the series with the win and will play for the series win Sunday afternoon. Alea White earned her 21st win of the year, tossing her 23rd complete game of the season and allowing five hits while striking out three with no walks. Damaria Cannon led the Knights offensively with a pair of singles and a walk for her second-straight two-hit game.
Houston put together a comeback bid in the top of the seventh, but fell short as the Cougars tallied four hits – one each from Lindsey Stewart, Kelli Montgomery, Maya Thomas and Brooke Vannoy. Presley Bell took the loss, allowing three hits on two runs with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.
Tulsa 4, Wichita State 3
No. 25 Tulsa rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to come back and defeat Wichita State, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Collins Family Softball Complex to even the three-game American Athletic Conference series at one game apiece. Haley Meinen and Alexis Perry each homered for the Golden Hurricane, while Julia Hollingsworth provided the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth. The offense was enough to back Chenise Delce, who allowed two earned runs with five strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
Laurie Derrico drove in two of the Shockers’ three runs with her sixth inning home run, moving her into a tie for first place on the school's all-time home run list. Derrico's 39 career home runs tie her with former Shocker great Cacy Williams at the top of the charts. Caitlin Bingham fell to 13-9 after allowing four runs on five hits, while walking six and striking out five in 5.2 innings.
