UConn took both games of the doubleheader with Hartford on Tuesday, tallying 28 total runs in a pair of five-inning contests. In the opener, Marybeth Olson tossed UConn's first no-hitter of the season, striking out seven and walking one in the five innings. Briana Marcelino had a three-hit game, including a homer, while Ashley Esty and Kiwi McDaniel each had two hits.
In the second game, UConn connected for three home runs - one each from Marcelino, McDaniel and Alexis Lemus - as Marcelino and Lemus both had three hits total. Devon Casazza and Ashlee Dahman each had two hits.
Memphis 13, Alcorn State 5 (5 innings); Memphis 12, Alcorn State 0 (5 innings)
Memphis bounced back with a pair of run-rule victories over Alcorn State Tuesday afternoon, including the first Memphis no-hitter since Feb. 23, 2018. Memphis won game one by a 13-2 margin before taking game two by a 12-0 score. Karli Perque's no-hitter was the first Memphis no-hitter of the season. The last time Memphis had a no-hitter was on Feb. 23, 2018. It was the 11th no-hitter in program history.
Ashley Threatt drove in six runs in the first inning of the first game, a program record for most RBI in a single inning. One of her hits in the inning was Memphis' second grand slam of the season. The Tigers scored 10 runs in the first inning of game one, the most in a single inning this season. Threatt extended her on-base streak to 14 games with a pair of hits in game one and a walk in game two. Her hitting streak ended at seven games after not recording a hit in the second game. Regan Hadley hit two home runs in game two, which was a career-high, as she finished the game with three hits. Baylee Smith helped lead Memphis in game two with three hits, three runs, and three RBI.
UMass 13, UConn 3
UMass scored 12 of the afternoon's final 13 runs on Wednesday as UConn fell 13-3 at home. Ashlee Dahman had the only two-hit game of the day for UConn, while four other Huskies had one hit each. Alexis Lemus' lone hit was a two-run double in the first inning, while Briana Marcelino had an RBI single in the fifth. Katie Koshes took the loss after tossing 4.2 innings and allowing seven hits with six strikeouts.
Missouri 7, Wichita State 1; Missouri 7, Wichita State 3
Wichita State was swept by Missouri in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Wilkins Stadium, falling by scores of 7-1 and 7-3. The Shockers totaled 10 hits in the two outings, with Bailee Nickerson and Wylie Glover coming up with a multi-hit game. Laurie Derrico hit her fifth home run of the season in game two, putting her three home runs away from becoming the all-time home runs leader in Shocker Softball history.
UCF 3, Jacksonville 2
UCF picked up a midweek win on Wednesday with a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville with a walk-off single from Takiya London in the bottom of the seventh to move to 27-9 overall. Breanna Vasquez received the start in the circle throwing six innings. Alea White came in in the seventh to pick up her 19th win of the season as White improves to 19-6 overall. Savannah Julylia led the Knights at the plate going 1-for-2 with two runs scored, including the winning run. The Knights extended their winning streak to 10 games heading into a three-game weekend series with Wichita State.
Kansas 7, Tulsa 4
Kansas jumped out to a 6-1 lead and held off Tulsa to score a 7-4 victory over the Golden Hurricane on Wednesday night at the Collins Family Softball Complex. Julia Hollingsworth went 2-for-3 with a run scored and extended her program record for triples with the 14th of her career. The Golden Hurricane saw its nine-game winning streak against the Jayhawks come to an end.
Houston 6, Lamar 0
A balanced attack for Houston gave the Cougars a 6-0 victory over Lamar on Wednesday night at Cougar Softball Stadium. By blanking Lamar, Houston tallied its 14th shutout of the year and first combined shutout, with Rachel Hertenberger earning the win. She finished the night surrendering just one hit and one walk to go along with seven strikeouts in her five innings of work. Offensively, Sarah Barker tallied a season and game-high three hits, with a home run and two RBI. She was joined by Maya Thomas and Tierrah Williams as those with multiple hits in the contest.
