UConn & USF Earn Series Wins Saturday; Wichita State Hands UCF First League Loss

Carli Cutler capped-off a remarkable comeback for the UConn on Saturday afternoon, connecting on a two-run homer to give the Huskies a 6-5 victory over Memphis in the second game of their American Athletic Conference series. Trailing by five after three innings, UConn scored two runs in each of the final three innings for the comeback. Marybeth Olson was masterful in relief, hurling three scoreless frames while striking out eight batters with just one walk to pick up the win in the circle.

Ashley Threatt added another game to her on-base streak, extending it to a team-high 16 games, for Memphis, while Sara Ann Davidson had her third multi-RBI game of the season, driving in two on Saturday. Ryleigh Aungst registered a pair of hits and Regan Hadley drove in her team-leading 32nd RBI.
 

Wichita State 6, UCF 3 (10 innings)
After UCF forced extra innings, Wichita State scored three runs in the 10th inning to snag a 6-3 win on Saturday afternoon for its first conference road win of the season. Madison Perrigan led the way offensively with two hits, while Erin McDonald earned her seventh win of the season, after pitching the final 4.2 innings of the afternoon.

Breanna Vasquez took the loss to move to 8-4 on the season, tossing all 10 innings giving up five hits, two earned runs, and striking out seven. Denali Schappacher was the only Knight to collect multiple hits with a pair along with one RBI.
 

Houston 4, Tulsa 3
Houston claimed the series finale against Tulsa on Satrday with a 4-3 victory. The Cougars' offense was led by Sarah Barker, who posted at game-high three hits. She was joined by Arielle James and Tierrah Williams as those who collected hits against the Golden Hurricane. Presley Bell tossed all seven innings for the Cougars, surrendering two earned runs in her 108 pitches thrown. She earned her eighth victory of the year, extending her career-high for wins in a season.

Julia Hollingsworth homered and drove in two runs for Tulsa, her second of the series for the Golden Hurricane. The senior also had two walks and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Tori Stafford plated the other run for Tulsa with a grounder. Samantha Pochop took the tough-luck loss for the Hurricane after she allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, in 5.1 innings. Kassidy Scott tossed the final 1.2 innings and yielded a pair of unearned runs.


 

USF 4, ECU 3
USF recorded its second series win of the season on Saturday night when it defeated ECU, 4-3, after nearly two hours in a weather delay. AnaMarie Bruni was the lone Bull with multiple hits, extending her hitting streak to six games, while it was her 14th multi-hit game of the year. Bethaney Keen collected a two-run double in the first, and both Brooke Hartman and Kelsey Lay picked up an RBI in the third inning. Nicole Doyle earned her eighth victory of the season after holding the Pirates to three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Whitney Sanford was tagged with the loss after surrendering four runs on four hits in just two innings pitched. She walked four batters and did not record a strikeout. Five different Pirates notched a hit while Pearson Yopp and Courtney Layton drove in two and one run respectively.
