The University of Houston Volleyball team held a 2-0 match lead to No. 6 Baylor, but was unable to complete the upset, falling in five sets (25-19, 25-22, 17-25, 9-25, 10-15) on Friday night inside the Fertitta Center.
With its 2-0 lead to start the match, the Cougars (12-3, 8-0 AAC) became the first unranked team to take the first two sets against the Bears (17-4, 13-3 Big 12) since Nov. 29, 2018. Thursday also marked the 11th time this season Houston has won the first two sets. The Cougars are now 9-2 on the year in such contests.

Senior Emma Wright had a season-best 12 kills and hit .500, and sophomore Lily Liekweg tallied a career-best 28 digs but it wasn't enough, as the Wichita State volleyball team fell to the Kansas Jayhawks, 3-1, inside Charles Koch Arena Thursday, March 18. The set scores were 25-18, 19-25, 13-25 and 15-25.
Wichita State (8-6) is scheduled to play the Jayhawks (9-10) in Lawrence, Kan., Saturday, March 20, at 4 p.m.
Wright, a middle blocker from Phoenix, Ariz., posted a dozen kills on 24 attempts with no errors while also tallying a match-best four block assists.
Kayce Litzau added a team-high 18 assists, respectively.
Wichita State outhit Kansas in its 25-18 opening set win, .243 to .149, but ended up being bested by the Jayhawks for the match, .243 to .083.
Anezka Szabo had a match-high 15 kills and hit .448, Jenny Mosser added a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs, and Ayah Elnady compiled 10 kills with four service aces, pacing the Jayhawks.
