Wichita State’s Wochner, Houston’s Slaughter Claim Golf Player of the Week Accolades

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s golf player of the week honor, for the week ending Tuesday, March 23.
 
Men’s Golf Player of the Week
Marcus Wochner * Jr. * Wichita State
Wochner helped lifted Wichita State to a team runner-up showing at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate on March 22-23 at the Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Missouri. Wochner claimed third place overall with a three-round score of 3-under-par 210 (67-73-70), just three shots off the pace of the tournament medalist. Wochner was the best player in the field in par-4 stroke average with an aggregate mark of 3.89 (-3) and was tied for the tournament lead with 13 made birdies. His first-round 67 was the best 18-hole score of the week turned in by any player.
 
Women’s Golf Player of the Week
Zoe Slaughter * Fr. * Houston
Slaughter led three Cougar players in the top five for No. 20 Houston in a third-place team result at the Mountain View Collegiate on March 19-21 at The Preserve Golf Club in Saddleback, Arizona. Slaughter took solo second place with a score of 208 (67-70-71) to finish at 8-under-par and bested 10 players slotted in the current GolfStat Top 100. Slaughter played the par-3 holes with a 2.83 stroke average (-2) and the par-5 holes at a 4.58 clip (-5). She also finished the week second with 14 made birdies on her card.
