JACKSONVILLE, Fla./COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Two student-athletes representing American Athletic Conference programs posted national qualifying marks on day three of 2021 NCAA Track & Field Preliminary Regionals on Friday. South Florida’s Duncan Agyemang advanced to Nationals in the men’s 400-meter hurdles out of the NCAA East Regional at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, and Houston’s Mikaila Martin qualified in the women’s hammer throw at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station.
 
Inclement weather in the state of Texas forced the postponement of Friday’s West Regional after only three men’s quarterfinal and semifinal events were completed. The remaining events will be slotted into Saturday’s final day of competition along with the conclusion of the women’s portion of the meet.
 
Houston’s Martin was officially declared a Nationals qualifier in the West Regional field of the women’s hammer throw following a technical issue that prevented the event from being completed on Thursday. Martin placed 10th in the qualifying round with a mark of 61.77m (202-8.0). Teammate Taylor Scaife finished 32nd at 57.09m (187-3.0).
 
Davis Dubbert of Wichita State was the top conference finisher in the men’s high jump at the West Regional, with a clearance of 2.01m (6-7.0) to finish in 40th place. Fellow Shocker Brady Palen was 44th with a matching 2.01m (6-7.0).
 
Memphis’ Adam Neelly narrowly missed the mark in the men’s discus at the East Regional, placing 19th in the field at 54.54m (178-11.0). Ryan Davis of East Carolina was 23rd with a top throw of 53.39m (175-2.0) and Matthew Everett of Memphis was 31st at 50.74m (166-6.0). Triston Gibbons of Houston was 41st with a top throw of 51.80m (169-11.0) in the West Regional.
 
Niejel Wilkins from East Carolina closed just off the pace in the men’s triple jump at the East Regional, with a top attempt of 15.63m (51-3.50) to take 18th place. South Florida’s David Ajama checked in 24th with a jump of 15.50m (50-10.25). Houston’s Jadon Brome was the leader from the conference in the West Regional in the event, finishing his season 16th with a top jump of 15.91m (52-2.50). Teammate Quinton Stringfellow was in 34th place with a 15.21m (49-11.0) showing and fellow Cougar Caleb Malbrough took 38th place at 14.98m (49-1.75). Wichita State’s Dowdy Elazarig checked in 40th with a jump of 14.86m (48-9.0).
 
South Florida’s Agyemang threw down a Nationals qualifying time in the men’s 400-meter hurdles at the East Regional meet, placing 10th in the quarterfinals with a time of 50.82 for a PR and a trip to Eugene.
 
Cincinnati’s Aaron Bienenfeld was denied in a bid to qualify for his second event at Nationals, finishing the East Regional men’s 5000-meter run semifinals in 18th place with a time of 13:52.66.
