UCF’s Jones Earns Silver In Women’s 100-Meter Hurdles To Close 2021 NCAA Track & Field Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – UCF freshman Rayniah Jones earned the fifth overall American Athletic Conference medal of the week at the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, claiming runner-up honors in the women’s 100-meter hurdles on Saturday to close the meet at Hayward Field.
 
The Knights finished the national meet with eight points accumulated as a team in the women’s competition. Houston added two points during the championship meet.
 
Jones, the American conference champion in the 100 hurdles this season, edged ahead in a photo finish at the line in Saturday’s national final to take the silver medal with a time of 12.82. Jones became the first UCF track athlete named to the top outdoor All-America team since the Knights joined The American, and the first overall for the program since 2013.
 
The Houston women’s 4x100-meter relay team of Tristan Evelyn, Camille Rutherford, Samiyah Samuels and Naomi Taylor picked up the best finish for the Cougars in the event since 2012, logging a time of 44.29 for seventh place. The Houston lineup claimed first team All-America honors.
 
Cincinnati’s Taylor Beard brought home second team All-America accolades in the women’s high jump, throwing down a top clearance of 1.78m, 5-10. Beard placed 16th overall in the final long jump standings.
 
Asherah Collins was the second UCF athlete to reach an individual final on Saturday, placing 23rd in the women’s triple jump. Collins’ top mark of 12.81m, 42-0.5) secured her honorable mention All-America plaudits.
