2021-22 Composite Conference Schedule (PDF)
IRVING, Texas — The American Athletic Conference has announced the men’s basketball conference schedule for the 2021-22 season.
The format returns to an 18-game schedule in which every team in The American will play eight of its 10 conference opponents twice and the other two opponents once – one at home and one on the road.
Approximately 60 percent of The American’s men’s basketball slate will be featured on linear television, including CBS, ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.
The 2021-22 season will be The American’s second under its 12-year media rights extension with ESPN, which will allow for a minimum of 60 conference-controlled games to be televised on either ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. A minimum of 23 of those games will be on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
The conference slate begins with one matchup on Dec. 15 with UCF traveling to Temple and continues on Dec. 28 as defending American Athletic Conference Tournament Champion and 2021 Final Four participant Houston hosts Cincinnati. Three more contests will take place on Dec. 29, including East Carolina hosting the league’s defending regular season champion, Wichita State.
Five conference games are scheduled to air on broadcast networks. ABC will air Cincinnati at 2021 NIT Champion Memphis on Jan. 9 and Memphis at Houston on Feb. 12. CBS will broadcast Memphis at Wichita State on Jan. 1, Wichita State at Houston on Jan. 8 and Houston at Memphis on March 6, the final day of the regular season.
The remaining conference-controlled games will be on ESPN+, ESPN’s direct-to-consumer streaming service which reaches nearly 15 million subscribers and is available at

All games that are televised on an ESPN network will also be available through the ESPN App, computers, smartphones, tablets and streaming devices to fans who receive their high-speed Internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated service provider.
CBS Sports’ broadcast coverage will be available to stream live on Paramount+, with additional coverage on CBSSports.com and CBS Sports HQ.
The 2022 American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship will take place March 10-13 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. All games of the championship will be televised on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU, including the championship final on ESPN.
Tip times for ESPN+ games will be determined by the host schools and announced at a later date.
The American will preview the 2021-22 season Oct. 13 and 14 when the league hosts its Basketball Media Days on ESPN+. Coverage will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. Eastern and continue on Oct. 14 at 10:30 a.m. Eastern.
