PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Tulsa's ninth-ranked men's soccer team captured a 3-2 win over Temple on Saturday night at the Temple Sports Complex in Philadelphia, Pa. The Golden Hurricane moved to 8-2-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Owls fell to 4-8-2 overall and 1-6 in the league.
Alex Meinhard crossed the ball into the box and Mariano Fazio headed in the goal from five yards out up the middle at the 38:35 mark for his second goal of the season, putting the Golden Hurricane up 1-0.
George Medill evened the score in the 44th minute as he headed in a goal from seven yards out and the two teams went into the locker room tied 1-1.
Sergio Baena put the Golden Hurricane ahead once again with just 1:31 ticked off the clock in the second frame. Baena drilled in a shot from 12 yards out off a cross from Meinhard.
Yann Kouemi tied the game for the second time as he shot from six yards out into the lower left corner at the 75:52 mark.
Meinhard punched in a penalty kick at the 82:53 mark as he shot into the lower right corner to put Tulsa up 3-2 for the final score.
FIU 2, UAB 1 – Box Score
MIAMI, Fla – Men's Soccer was back at FIU Soccer Stadium, Saturday night, hosting UAB. The Panthers would take out the Blazers, 2-1, for another American Athletic Conference victory.
The Panthers came out firing, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes.
In the fourth minute, Yushi Nagao found Fumiya Shiraishi streaking down the left wing, scoring FIU's first goal with a powerful close-range shot that beat the keeper at the near post.
Six minutes later Stephen Afrifa put the Panthers ahead, 2-0, after skillfully tapping in a great ball from Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro.
FIU would dominate the rest of the half, pinning the Blazers in their own end and nearly scoring a third goal multiple times.
The second half was more competitive as both sides made halftime adjustments.
As both teams battled back and forth, UAB would find a goal in the 64th minute off a corner kick.
The 75th minute saw the Blazers go down to 10 men after getting a straight red card for a dangerous blow to the head of Matthias Lavenant.
With the man advantage FIU would see out the final 15 minutes to secure the, 2-1, win.
Memphis 2, FAU 0 – Box Score
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Playing in their second match of the week, the Memphis Tigers welcomed the Owls of Florida Atlantic to town. Two late goals would lift the Tigers over the Owls as they earned the 2-0 win.
After today's game, Memphis moves to 7-3-4 for the season and 4-2-1 in American Athletic Conference play.
The Tigers and Owls would play a scoreless first half that saw just five combined shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Jovan Prado would break the tie in the 70' when he recorded his second penalty kick goal of the season.
Just five minutes later, Gabriel Christensen would find the feet of Eric Primo deep in the box and connect for the Tigers second goal of the night for the 2-0 lead.
Colin Welsh would make two game-saving stops in the second half to help give Memphis the win.
