HOUSTON (AP) — Marcus Sasser scored 25 points, Tramon Mark added 16 points and No. 1 Houston routed Norfolk State 100-52 in the Cougars’ first game as the top-ranked team in nearly 40 years Tuesday night.
Houston, which was playing as the No. 1 team for the first time since March 14, 1983, donned its 1960s throwback uniforms. The Cougars played their first regular season home game ranked No. 1 since March 2, 1968.
Sasser finished 7-of-12 on 3-pointers, rebounding nicely after making only one of 10 from behind the arc in Houston’s win over Kent State on Saturday.
Houston (7-0) was 17 of 33 on 3-pointers, including going 10 of 18 in the first half against Norfolk State.
Jamal Shead finished with 12 points and 11 assists, J’Wan Roberts had 10 points and Ja’Vier Francis had 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Houston had four players in double-figures scoring in the first half as they built a 54-20 halftime lead.
The Cougars shot 58% for the game, including 63% in the first half. Houston forced 16 turnovers, which they turned into 30 points.
Kris Bankston scored 14 points and Cahiem Brown added scored 11 points for Norfolk State (5-3). The Spartans shot 35%, including 1-of-18 on 3-pointers.
Houston used a 42-7 run over a 13-minute span of the first half to open up a 48-12 lead on a free throw by Mark with 4 ½ minutes remaining.
South Carolina State 73, East Carolina 68 -

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Lesown Hallums scored 22 points as South Carolina State beat East Carolina 73-68 on Tuesday night.
Hallums added six rebounds for the Bulldogs (1-7). Cam Jones scored 13 points while shooting 6 for 16, including 1 for 3 from beyond the arc. Rakeim Gary was 4 of 10 shooting, including 1 for 3 from distance, and went 3 for 4 from the line to finish with 12 points. The Bulldogs snapped a seven-game skid.
The Pirates (5-3) were led in scoring by Ezra Ausar, who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. RJ Felton added 14 points for East Carolina. Javon Small also had 12 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
South Carolina State went into the half leading East Carolina 39-35. Hallums put up 12 points in the half. South Carolina State outscored East Carolina by one point in the second half. Gary led the way with 12 second-half points.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Dyondre Dominguez helped lead UMass over South Florida on Tuesday night with 15 points off of the bench in a 73-67 victory.
Dominguez had five rebounds for the Minutemen (5-1). RJ Luis added 14 points while going 6 of 10 (2 for 3 from distance), and they also had six rebounds. T.J. Weeks recorded 13 points and was 4 of 8 shooting, including 2 for 5 from distance, and went 3 for 3 from the line.
Tyler Harris finished with 15 points and three steals for the Bulls (2-6). Russel Tchewa added 13 points and eight rebounds for South Florida. In addition, Selton Miguel had 12 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Missouri 88, Wichita State 84 (OT) -

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Noah Carter scored 20 points, D’Moi Hodge added 19 and undefeated Missouri rallied late to force overtime and then never trailed in the extra period to beat Wichita State 88-84 on Tuesday night for its eighth straight win.
Carter had four points as Missouri scored the first six points of overtime, and his two-handed slam with 56.3 remaining gave the Tigers a five-point advantage. Wichita State pulled within three inside the final 20 seconds twice but didn’t get closer.
Carter was 7 of 11 from the field and Hodge 7 of 18, and the pair combined for six of the Tigers’ seven 3-pointers. Sean East II added 17 points for Missouri (8-0).
Jaykwon Walton and Craig Porter Jr. each scored 14 points for Wichita State (4-3), which shot 54% (33 of 61) from the floor and made 12 of 29 (41%) from long range. Walton also had 10 rebounds. The Shockers missed eight free throws and committed 20 turnovers.
Wichita State trailed for most of the first half and for first three minutes of the second but used a 12-1 run to lead 66-56 with 5:15 to play in regulation. Jaron Pierre Jr. made consecutive 3s during the stretch.
The Tigers answered with Carter scoring eight points during a 16-5 run to take the lead, 72-71, with 2:00 remaining in regulation. Hodge made 1 of 2 free throws with 9.7 seconds left to tie it at 75 and Gus Okafor missed a 3 on the other end.
