IRVING, Texas – Memphis and South Florida won their first-round matches on Sunday, Nov. 6 to advance to the semifinals of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship.
 
No. 3 South Florida defeated No. 6 Charlotte 2-1, in Tampa, while fifth-seeded Memphis went on the road and took down No. 4 Tulsa 2-1 in overtime. South Florida will take on No. 2 SMU (10-4-1) in the first semifinal on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET. The Tigers will face host and No. 1 seed FIU (11-4-1) in the second semifinal on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
 
The 49ers and Bulls (7-5-4) each scored a goal in the first half. Charlotte’s Matthew Kirk scored in the 24^th minute, but South Florida quickly answered with an equalizer from Ajmeer Spengler in the 30^th minute. South Florida came out of the halftime break and scored what would be the game-winning goal, as Oscar Resano found the bottom left corner in the 47^th minute.
 
South Florida’s Jackson Weyman withstood the 49er attacks, coming away with five saves in the match.
 
In Tulsa, Alex Meinhard put the Golden Hurricane on top early, navigating the Tigers defense and finding the bottom left corner in the 29^th minute. In the 49^th minute, the Tigers (9-4-4) scored the equalizer as Alberto Cruz capitalized on a penalty kick.
 
In overtime, with just two minutes to go in the first period, Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos took a near perfect pass from Hayden Anderson and headed it in to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
 
Colin Welsh stood strong against the Tulsa attack, as the Memphis goalkeeper finished with seven saves.
