IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track and field honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, February 13.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jordan Booker * Sr. * Houston
Booker continued his bright season in the 200-meter dash for Houston, placing in the top 10 during a competitive finals heat at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invite on Feb. 11. Booker claimed ninth place with a finals time of 20.87, the top time in The American and 20th overall in the NCAA this season as of Feb. 15.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Christyan Sampy * Jr. * Houston
Sampy extended his conference lead in the pole vault this season representing Houston at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invite on Feb. 11. Sampy cleared 5.47m (17-11.25) on his vault in the sixth round to take the event victory. Sampy’s mark ranked first in The American and 10th nationally as of Feb. 15.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Rayniah Jones * So. * UCF
Jones’ progression in the 60-meter hurdles continued for UCF at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invite on Feb. 11. Jones finished fourth in the 60-hurdles finals heat as the third overall collegiate finisher with a school record and conference record tying (Naomi Taylor, Houston, 2019 NCAA DI Indoor Championships) time of 8.01. Jones remained atop the conference with the performance and moved up to sixth in the NCAA this season as of Feb. 15.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Priscilla Adejokun * Grad * Houston
Adejokun continued extending her conference lead in the weight throw with a dominant showing at the Howie Ryan Invitational on Feb. 11. Adejokun’s fifth throw covered 22.77m (74-8.5) to win the competition by over five full meters. Adejokun remained at the top of The American and moved up to fifth nationally in the weight throw as of Feb. 15.
